capitalizing surnames

This annoying feature was brought in as part of the great makeover 2 years ago. It also affects place names. A lot of people no longer bother to update their GRU tree since the changes. It has gone from snappy and quick to cumbersome and slow. Also key functionality such as print, embedded pictures in trees and the interface with google maps has been removed.

welcome to the boards - don't think we've had an Etienne on here before :-)

I have just done a few tests and it appears that regardless of how you enter names, for example, capitals, lower case or a combination of both, the data is stored as mixed case, i.e. the first letter as a capital with the remaining letters in lower case.

So you are not doing anything wrong, it seems it is a feature of the program.

However, if you import your tree via a gedcom file and names are already capitalised, then they will remain so, unless you attempt to edit the name in question, in which case it will revert to mixed case.

I like to have in my tree the surnames capitalized. But too often it doesn't succeed when I first edit some people and then change the characters (lower case instead of upper or otherwise . . ) before saving it. Sometimes it well does but a few minutes later it ' s back to the old version, automatically.

What am I doing wrong ?

I'd appreciate all tips from the kind members . . Thank you very much in advance.
