I lived there too in Sussex Street but donkeys years ago.
You can see my ghost drinking in the Westgate with my then boss Mr Jacombe every 31 October lol.

;-)

Interesting comment, Rollo. I know of a person with a similar name to yours on that street. A poacher turned gamekeeper if you will. He was a useless idiot when poacher and an even more ham fisted gamekeeper. But now he's on better money (apparently a valid reason for changing sides), and no longer 'red', he seems to think this makes him a better manager.

But, sadly, he's wrong :-D

Come back on when you are sober Rollo.

Aha but Rollo was a manager of the denizens of Sussex Street ;-)

Of course you are not whinging Sharron. Just let your body tell you what to do and when. It will all fall into place soon enough.

Have you got a double oven? I am very good at turning on one oven and putting the cooking in the other.

I did an explosion last week. Left a ring on low, washed up, put a pyrex bowl down on it. Picked up the bowl to get it off the hob when I noticed and put it on the wet draining board.

It wasn't half loud!

Last Christmas, I put the turkey in the oven & then went off to watch a bit of TV. An hour or so later, I checked on how the roasting was coming along.

There in the middle of the tray was the turkey standing up & in a fierce rage. “Either light this damn oven or give me my feathers back - I’m freezing in here!”

Actually, Rose, I did have class 1 lessons thirty odd years ago but ran out of money before I could take the test. I am not thinking of picking up where I left off now.

No, this is a whole new learning curve. There is the gardening to learn and that is so exciting, if full of mistakes and enormous crops of marrows!

Shedding a lifetime of other peoples hassle is another. Not something I have been able to try before.

Sharon, you don't look like you are whingeing. You are writing down feelings and impressions that are new to you that's all., no one 'has' to read if they don't want to :-)

As far as employment goes, it is the same here, Midlands, unless you have specific skills ( can you drive an HGV? lol). Lots of part time retail which is useless if you need to pay a mortgage, (and before anyone says, no it doesn't lead to full time, the employers know that 3 part time employees are better for them financially and for ensuring cover etc than one full time employee.)

To that place I don't know about where I will be getting this job.

It has certainly been a journey of discovery recently. It is quite therapeutic and new to be able to do what feels right rather than what feels necessary. We get so little chance to follow our instincts.

I 'think' perhaps Rollo was suggesting that a job can help with giving one a reason to get up and also a focus outside yourself? and it does provide 'human contact' as a distraction lol.

My friend used to say she would miss work because she wasn't very disciplined at home and 'things would not get done' if she didn't have some sort of deadline. But she has adapted to retirement and she certainly gets as much human interaction when she walks the dog as she needs ( on her terms) . My brother says he doesn't know where he found the time to work lol, since he retired other things have taken the place of decades of getting up at 5.00 am and not getting home till after 7 usually.

It is amazing how the body can determine what's best :-D

Where could you move - the North?

Unemployment is all over the country - unless you are willing to accept a 'zero hours' contract.

I hope I don't look like I am whingeing or looking for sympathy because, really, I am not.

Actually I am intrigued by what is happening, going with it because I can now and letting it happen.

I thought it was as different as having the watercress thrive when I had neglected it so badly. Something I had never experienced before.

How lovely it would be to live in time of high employment so that I could get a job rather than go through the motions to meet some kind of statistical targets that nobody believes are achievable.

Maybe if I moved to a different part of the country it would help!

Sharron, I'm a bit like that at the moment.
Just can't concentrate.
I went to prepare a duck for slow cooking. Got the duck.
Went to computer to fid the recipe
Played a game
Went back to kitchen, did dishes, stated duck.
didn't prepare other 'stuff' for it
Back to comp.
fed the cats
washed hands, dried dishes, did sauce, finished preparing duck.

I know I have to remove washing from machine, clean kitchen and vacuum, but it's just not appealing.

Still haven't had breakfast, either.

Rollo, I work - that is my problem - work related stress!!

It's not a case of 'not being able to do the job' - I could do it standing on my head, but the amount of work, interruptions, attitude of 'management' etc.

Work related stress doesn't just affect an employee at work - it has a 'knock-on' effect.

So glad you were never my manager :-|

Hi Sharron,

I think there is a period of time ( my friend found the same when her mother died) where, because you have been locked into a routine for so long as a carer your body/mind reacts when you no longer have to be Couple that with the emotional loss and you get an inability to concentrate for long on any one thing.
( I'd say perhaps it's the body's automatic safety mechanism myself...coping with tiny bits rather than the whole shebang at once) .

A job might help, but not until you are ready.

My friend has found since retiring that having a dog makes for a routine not so very different to work ( get up, go out, food, go out , look after, play with) but without the stress lol.

It's all normal, you haven't 'just' lost your dad you have lost the 'routine' of your life as a carer at the same time.

Yu are quite normal most people behave like this if they don't have some task which keeps them nailed down. It can be being a carer for instance.

One common solution is to get a job which is one reason why even people over retirement age like to go on working at least part time. A job

good luck

Sorry to keep on about it but I found this quite interesting. Well I would, wouldn't I?

I have been trying to get through this mental oddness by consciously breaking everything I do into little, manageable bits, and it is working!

Last night I kept breaking off from eating my tea to read the paper or watch a bit of tele. I ate the carrots, broke off, ate the spuds, broke off, ate the pie etc.

Anything like that I am going along with because it must be happening for a reason so I suppose it must be my sub- conscious mind doing the same as I am doing consciously.

It will be a bit convenient when my mind starts working properly again!
