I'm very sad to hear about Acker Bilk's Passing.

I had his "Stranger On The Shore" record when I was 7 years old.

RIP ACKER BILK <3

Along with some mates I got into trouble for going to see Acker Bilk in 1963. We were cadet nurses in Aylesbury and had to attend night school two evenings a week. We skipped to go to the concert, the lecturer informed the matron and we were all summoned to her office the next morning lol. Matrons really were scary people in those days but it was worth it :-)

RIP Acker

Played in a band alongside him a number of times at The Cavern in Liverpool, and shared a concert at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester with him in the 60s.
He was quite a character.
I believe the last concert he did was last year and he was in a wheelchair at the Brecon Jazz Festival.

Just heard that he has died aged 85.
Know he's been ill for a while.
