I use the free version of CCleaner to clean up my PC - I run it everyday before I log off

Just wanted to let you know that I am sorted. Had six and half years of browsing history. Removed it . I hadn't known it was best to do this but Hey Ho done now. Switched to Chrome and can get into all that I want to see. Lost my tree on here for a while but GR support team put me straight.
Thanks to all for advice

It`s not a virus. It`s due I believe to IE security settings, something to do with "Trusted sites" or even Add ons.
Elizabeth is right. I think changing you browser to Chrome will eliminate the explorer problem.
You can always change back if you don't like Chrome.

Although I have Windows 7 (and IE11) I still occasionally get this message or just a stalemate - I can usually get straight through to problem sites on Chrome|

If you are still running XP then do not use Internet Explorer.

Thanks Graham, will try that. Not sure about anti-viral software, pleading ignorance yet again.

Trying clearing the cache/browser history. That usually helps. ;-)

Do you have anti-virual software?

Can someone please tell me how I would know if I had a virus. I am right p***ed off at the moment. Everytime I try to see a web page I get - Internet Explorer cannot display web page. Tried to book a holiday, filled in all the gubbins but when I went to book it I got the same message. Is it me or what. I can get Ancestry and Gr but this problem is driving me nuts.
Many thanks
Phyll
