What is the reason that I receive emails advising of Hot Matches and when I investigate none of the names or dates correspond?

Welcome to the boards Geoffrey.

This is a common problem, that has been going on for some months. GR are aware of the problem. But it seems they no longer have anybody capable of sorting it.

It really shouldn't be called "Hot Matches" - just possible connections. One of the difficult factors is "place of birth" as this can be entered accurately but quite differently! depending on the source being the place of registration, the place of birth, the address of the parents, the place of baptism, the census. (Ancestry picks up and lists all possible and almost impossible connections - and sometimes this can run to thousands of references which you have to be very very keen to rummage through!) It changed with GR responding to what I think were unreasonable complaints about different birthplaces, and since then it has been very random - I only get them very occasionally and if that Hot I usually have them already.

Thanks for your replies, I am not very active in my research at present. From a year or so ago GR was a very useful tool but it seems to have deteriorated to a major degree so much that I am very tempted to cancel my subscription.

Hi Geoffrey

There's no point in asking questions of GR on these Boards ............................

they rarely read the threads, and even more rarely respond!

It's only other members who really read and help out on them :-)

If you want to contact GR, use the following email address ..................

[email protected]

and see if you get a sane response ;-)
