I doubt if there is a family in the whole of the UK (and ROI) who has not been affected in some way by war.

I consider myself lucky that no direct ancestors have died, but have several more distant ones who died in both WW1 and WW2.

And more recent in conflicts and peace since WW2.

We as a nation respect our war dead, it is such a shame that the staff at GR does not.

".may have.." - surely we 'all had' as they were ALL heroes!

If you contact them and ask that this kind of promotional message not be sent then GRU will stop doing it. Sadly the carnage of the C20 cut a particularly savage swathe through my family. The never ending messages on the lines of "You may have had a hero in your family ...." used to make me feel quite ill and angry. I don't get them any more thank goodness.

They never wanted to be heroes anyway.

I really would have preferred not to have received, what I can only describe, as a blatant advertising e-mail from GR - hijacking Remembrance Sunday and the events surrounding those who fought in the First World War and other wars, to promoting this site.

Personally, in my opinion, this news letter only compounds their original insult of failing to put a poppy on the home page.
