November 11th is Veteran's Day in the US

The Americans do not wear poppies on Veterans Day ................. but they do on Memorial Day, July 1

Why????

This probably explains the difference ................

Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. Others who died are also remembered.

Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty.

The opening ceremony was very tastefully done.

Joss Stone and Jeff Beck were performing a tribute song as the poppies fell.

Rather than the usual NFL flag , they brought a huge poppy flag instead.

Everyone in the stadium had either a white or red bag to hold up during the National Anthems.
These created a scene of huge red poppies on a white background.

NFL worked in conjuction with the British Legion and It was lovely.

My OH and daughters are all at Wembley Stadium again for the last of 3 NFL games being played there.

At todays game with Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys, 80,000 poppies are to be be dropped from the stands in hounour of Rememberance Sunday.
