Such a shame, but there does seem to be a valid reason. They say they have looked at alternative routes :-0

One option might have been issuing free tickets for access to the Quay.

There are even bigger crowds every year for the firework display at Poole Quay which of course has just happened without any bad incidents. No talk of cancelling 5 Nov next year either...

So no valid reason other than the traders in the Dolphin Centre won't fork out.

The article quoted fears that crowd safety and moving vehicles. If barriers were erected, would there then be fears about crushing? It would be interesting to know if the Policing costs were a factor.
