Hi Barry

Although your post was somewhat tinged with sadness..........It was quite beautiful and bought a heartfelt tear to my eye.

Folks are always nice to you Barry because you are one of the "Special People"......your heart and soul reaches out to others.

I must add that it was Wend who had a visit from her Granddaughter. I am sooo not old enough to have Grandchildren!!! ;-)

I am just going to read through your post again.

I hope you have a wonderful evening.

Prickles. )))HUG((( <3 <3 <3

Island: yes, our lovely neighbour, Peggy, was very keen about drinking this unusual mixture; she told me this with great enthusiasm. She lived to her early 80s, BTW.

I'm doing well, thanks for asking, Prickles. I appear to be healthy and I take my B12 tablet in the morning and my baby aspirin (81 mg, not your 75 mg) at night.
The Poppy run in the local stores and Remembrance Day parades that kept me busy are over for 2014; however, I have a Veterans’ Dinner tonight at my local Legion.
A great sadness on Remembrance Day, the loveliest day for weeks; it was so warm and sunny and nary a breeze in the trees. A total contrast Wednesday onward! Snow is slowly falling as I write.
I travelled 50 miles to my previous branch this day for the parade. (The parade at my new branch was last Sunday.)
Wearing my old RAF uniform and medals - I popped into the palliative care in the hospital just after 9.00 AM to see an elderly family friend who was slipping away quickly with her cancer she had for years. I saw her three days previously, but she was almost incoherent.
There was one nurse in her room and she was surprised to see me. She told me Mary passed away at 8.55 AM. How sad I missed this lovely lady by mere minutes, even though she could not have spoken.
As I (partly) wrote on her family condolence “I kissed her goodbye on her warm forehead and I held her hand for the last time and spoke a few words to her. She always replied to me ... but not this time.”
I asked the nurse - a total stranger - for a group hug. She happily obliged.
Prickles, I have found that folks are always so very nice to me - as I said at work when I retired.
I really feel blessed by the simple kindnesses of other lovely people toward me.
The family used a photo I took last year for Mary’s picture at the funeral home.
I am indeed honoured.

Mary’s hubby is in a nearby home with dementia / Alzheimer’s and stares at the wall. Recently, I had to hand feed him a cupcake I made, which he always loves to eat.
What a terrible and very sad end for him - and so many dear folk like him.
‘Tragic’ does not cover such illnesses that befall so many good people.
The past week was not the happiest of times for me to remember.

It will soon be Christmas and I must get myself and my 'stuff' together and write my Christmas Cards.
Sylvia and I know each international card this year will be $2.82 (about £1.56), so a bank loan may be in order for the number I send annually.
I like to send cards and I LOVE to receive them!
I do not come on here much now; it seems even the most unexpected and innocent comment may be RRd! It is such a sadness how things have gradually deteriorated here - and GR apparently doing nothing to bolster regular members’ confidence, either.
For Shame!
I’ve have read and seen this reply really is far too long but you did ask, Prickles, you kind lady.
I am very pleased to read you had fun with your grand-daughter who visited with you.
Take care.
Barry

PS. It was nice to 'talk' about the death of Dear Friend, Mary.
Thank you, Prickles.

Just had a very pleasant interlude with my new little granddaughter and her parents, who popped in to see us.

Island - I was referring to AnnC's thread a couple of days ago - 'Reminder for GR Bods' and your post at 12.43 pm, when most old gals are tucked up in bed (not all though it seems ;-) )

3 parts Gin
1 part Cherry brandy
top up Soda water
1/2 part Lemon juice
4 Ice cubes
1 Maraschino cherry

Put the ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour the lemon juice, cherry brandy and gin over the ice and shake until frost forms. Pour without straining into a hurricane glass and top up with soda water. Decorate with a cherry and straws. No cola.

Sure I'm a whizz at parties y not ?
Just 'cos I won;t have the vile US sugar soda industry under the roof is no reason not be have fun. The cigarette companies were good at advertising too.

Morning, Prickles. I do hope you are well.
Swirling snow here and dark skies.
.
Rollo, I prefer the drink with 'pep' in it. Not that I drink much of this stuff at all.
I have to tell you of a drink 'recipe' our elderly next door neighbours - both deceased - told me in the 1980s. They insisted it was good.
Here goes ...
.
50 - 50 mix of:
Cola ...
and ...
MILK!
Yep, good old everyday milk!
To this day I have never tried it.
I have passed this drink recipe to several people.
However, to my knowledge no one has taken the plunge and tried it.
Now ya know!
Enjoy.
