You're beating a dead horse, Liz. Let it go!

KathleenBell Report 2 Dec 2014 00:33

I think the number of complaints they got with regard to the missing poppy has made them ultra sensitive about not upsetting anyone over Christmas decorations.

I don't think they will ever "forget" the poppy again!!

I think now, we should let the poppies go and enjoy the fact that they have put the baubles up.

'The human imagination breaks free at Christmas, urged on by the desire to see our world as it isn't'.

Joy Report 2 Dec 2014 11:30

Because, Liz, they forgot that the four-year centenary anniversary was approaching and so did not have a technical release ready. An apology was received with an assurance that a poppy logo will be uploaded next year:-

they forgot in November but that's in the past now

they are trying to make it up to us by putting the Christmas decs up early

well done GR for tying :-D :-D

RolloTheRed Report 2 Dec 2014 12:00

If they are going to put up baubles for Christmas then why not mark Orthodox Christmas, Yom Kippur Hashana Eid ul Fitr and so on ?

The poppies are appropriate for a F.H. site the rest of the time either include everybody or do nothing.

Tesco probably have more visitors in a day during December than all the churches put together for the month. Bah humbug as Dickens said.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 2 Dec 2014 12:08

The baubles are non religious and can mark mid-winter festivities as well as Christmas.

The vast majority of GR members appreciate 25 Dec as a non-working day and a time to celebrate with family even if they don't have a Christian belief.
Our Sikh neighbours certainly do!

Don't knock it :-D

OK - lets re-phrase

The vast majority of members who post on General Chat.....
:-D

Added - With dull, and short days of natural light, anything to brighten up the month should be welcomed. Let's maintain the status quo until such time as there is an overwhelming demand to do away with any form of celebration.

The 'X' in Xmas replaces the word 'Christ'.

Budgie Rustler

Budgie Rustler Report 2 Dec 2014 15:47

Dermot matey, :-)
Put, Christmas into Google Translator and select Greek .
This maybe is how the X came about.

Dermot

Dermot Report 2 Dec 2014 16:00

Budgie Rustler - my default position is that, more than likely, there is a God.

But my 'faith' in the Google God is not strong. My deficit in foreign languages alters nothing.

I regularly use 'X' during elections.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 2 Dec 2014 16:10

Christians have been using "X" since Anglo Saxon times and probably even longer. The word "christmas" is part Latin and part Greek anyway.
