Especially Tasmania. They were hunted.

With no soul to consider, it was free for all on the black man.

How terribly convenient.

spot on Sharron - I recently read a book called "Bury my heart at wounded knee" - heartbreaking account of the inhumanity shown to the native American people by so-called civilised people

There ought to be a name for the race of people dishing out political correctness left right and centre. :-|

Oooops, there is... They`re called Muppets. ;-)

I feel it to be far more offensive that the Cherokee, who managed their lands so efficiently for millennia, are now obliged to live in reserves upon it while those who now so carefully choose inoffensive names for them continue to despoil and exploit it.

Kense

Kense Report 4 Dec 2014 08:37

Surely cowboy is also an offensive term. Shouldn't it be something like catlle management officer?

Did you know that :-
the principal food of the Siouxs
is Indian maize, which they briouxs

or mix in a cake,
and eat it with forks, as they chiouxs.

And.....
All new-fashioned boats he eschiouxs

These are handy and light,

Sharron

Sharron Report 3 Dec 2014 23:55

There once was a First Nations People maid,

Who always was afraid la la la.

Oh np, it doesn't go together at all.

Poor old Kaw Liga can never be sung of again.

The politically correct term here in Canada is now "First Nations People" but that also doesn't help the joke.

I'm a little more sensitive to the word Indian. I live next door to a Mohawk reservation. We wouldn't dream of calling them Indians.

Likewise the word Eskimo is not used here anymore. They are Inuit.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 3 Dec 2014 22:30

"North American Native" doesn't have the same ring to it.....

re: following post.

that may be ......,
but its hard avoiding the "newspeak" as various organisations /populations ,communities.etc
change what was once common usage into modern non preferred terms .

in all probability the phrases we old'uns sometimes use were/are never used in a derogatory manner at all....

The Lone Ranger and Tonto walked into a saloon and sat down to drink a Beer.

After a few minutes, a big tall cowboy walked in and said "Who Owns the
big white horse outside?"

The Lone Ranger stood up, hitched his gun belt, and said, "I do....Why?"

The cowboy looked at the Lone Ranger and said, "I just thought you'd like to know that your horse is about dead outside!"

The Lone Ranger and Tonto rushed outside and sure enough Silver was ready
to die from heat exhaustion . The Lone Ranger got the horse water and soon
Silver was starting to feel a little better.

The Lone Ranger turned to Tonto and said, "Tonto, I want you to
run around Silver and see if you can create enough of a breeze to make him
start to feel better." Tonto said, "Sure, Kemosabe" and took off running
circles around Silver.

Not able to do anything else but wait, the Lone Ranger returned to
the saloon to finish his drink. A few minutes later, another cowboy
struts into the bar and asks, "Who owns that big white horse outside?"

The Lone Ranger stands again, and claims, "I do, what's wrong with him
this time?" The cowboy looks him in the eye and says,

(...I JUST LOVE THIS PART...)

"Nothing, but you left your injun runnin".
