Taking anti-inflammatories?

I was taking celebrex, now I take some herbal ones, but I always take them with my meals, or my stomach goes balistic!

They don't get rid of the inflammation, just turn the "heat" down a bit.

I'd rather eat avocado! :-D

Dizzi

your paracetamol is, I believe, the equivalent of our Tylenol ............. which is what I have to take

both are trade names for acetaminophen

Tylenol is still just about working for me ................ the strongest I take so far is on prescription, Tylenol3 or acetaminophen plus 30 mg codeine

I think that is equivalent to your co-codamol

and, of course, acetaminophen is a pain reliever, not an anti-inflammatory :-(

I do now have a gel that I can apply to small areas if they get inflamed, like a toe joint or my knee, but I'm not allowed to use it over large areas, because it is absorbed into the skin and could cause me stomach problems ..................

the pharmacist has to make it up .................... it is 15 mg of diclofenac in a gel, an anti-inflammatory

creams with a lower dose of diclofenac can be bought over the counter here under the trade name Voltaren

I'M NOT ALLOWED THEM EITHER,THE ONLY THING I'M ALLOWED IS PARACETAMOL WHICH HONEST DON'T DO
ANYTHING ANYMORE.

In a woman's magazine only this week there was in the usual doctor's health article a comment that if you have arthritis you should beware of tomatoes as they are inflammatory. I've never heard this before! I almost routinely have a couple of large tomatoes I eat like an apple as a labour saving salad with my lunch. It must I suppose be rheumatoid arthritis rather than osteo-, But is this true, or well-known?

I'm not allowed to take most anti-inflammatories .................. those we call NSAIDS or non-steroidal antiflammatory drugs

I have a stomach problem (gastric reflux) which is aggravated by them

not that I'm too worried .................. the couple of times I tried them before I had this problem, they didn't work.

The doctor I had then also had arthritis, and he said that he used such drugs sparingly, not every day.

If he was going to do an extra amount of actiivity, eg a long walk, skiing, then he would take an anti-inflammatory before the exercise ............. he found that worked well for him.

I tried that .......... nope!

Me too :-(

They're not working very well, and I've been googling to find out which foods are beneficial.

Top of my list? Avocado! :-D YUM!
