OneFootInTheGrave Report 12 Dec 2014 16:03

If you are planning to fly from any of London's airports in the next 24 hours or expecting anyone to arrive at any of these airports - check with the relevant airport.

London airspace has been closed until 19:00 GMT after a computer failure, air traffic controllers have said.

Kense Report 12 Dec 2014 17:01

The report that airpace has been closed is an exaggeration as some flights are still arriving, but airports are filling up (especially London City).

Also there have some departures from Luton, Stansted and Southend to northern destinations.

It seems that the air space is open again. Obviously there are going to be delays, cancellations and planes in the wrong place.

Got cross with one delayed traveller as interviewed on the TV news. She was complaining that she didn't get priority with her 2 & 4 year old children.

Sorry Love. There are probably other families with young children, elderly and or infirm people in the same position. The world doesn't revolve around your children!

Nothing to do with airline IT or offshore cheapies.

We are talking about the UK Air tTraffic Control System here - probably the most complex IT sysem in the entire country......!
