the "wife?" of the gunman ~

chilling

LadyScozz Report 16 Dec 2014 00:28

according to the news, some of the hostages ran out, then there was gunfire. The police threw in stun grenades then ran in. By then, the gunman had shot two of the hostages (those we were trying to get his shotgun), I'm assuming the police shot the gunman. One of the hostages died of a heart attack.

I hope those who took selfies are hanging their heads in shame.

.....I presume, after they were shot, is when the police went in.

The two hostages who died were shot by the gunman, they were attempting to wrestle the shotgun from him when he dozed off

Just watched the news, it's terrible that hostages died. My heart goes out to their families and friends. Nowhere is safe from these fanatical people. It will take some time for the hostages who got away to feel secure in their surroundings again.

Dreadful news to wake up to, Allan :-(. Now we need answers as to why this dreadful man was out on bail considering the charges against him.

My thoughts are with the families of the hostages who sadly died and I hope very much that the other hostages will receive all the support they will need to come to terms with this dreadful situation.

well said - the police were faced with an extremely tricky situation

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 15 Dec 2014 20:05

Rollo ~ the gunman refused to speak to police. or any other negotiater.

Food didn't need to be brought in, they were fed in the cafe.

I take offence at your comment " the general disposition of Oz police "

Now is NOT the time to get on your soapbox.

two hostages - how absolutely dreadful - and for what?

JemimaFawr

JemimaFawr Report 15 Dec 2014 18:57

Along with the hostage-taker, sadly two hostages have also died- a 38 year old woman and a 34 year old man.
One of whom is believed to have been shot dead by the gunman.

My thoughts are with all the victims of this dreadful incident!

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 15 Dec 2014 18:54

Now three people are dead. So very sad.

A fairly predictable outcome given the general disposition of Oz police but not the way to handle such a situation. A better way is to make a relationship with the terrorist(s), send in what they want eg food and wait and wait and wait. Even if it is the Sydney CBD.

The demand for a proper IS flag was a prefect opportunity gone begging.

IS are encouraging this sort of attack and yes London is on their top 5 list.

Police will give a statement at 7 our time, my thoughts are with the family of the as yet un-named hostage who has died, and those who are injured, one critically.
