Whatever takes your fancy. Up to 2-3 years ago we always had goose and then suddenly the request for duck came in.

This year - son said he had a duck in freezer, OH said there was a large leg of lamb, beef and pork in ours (C. Eve we always have a home cooked ham).
After some discussion son said he would like a T bone steak whilst OH and I are having rib eye steak.

I offered to make something different this year, but my kids are having none of it!
They want turkey as usual

I prepare the bird on Christmas Eve and set the oven to come on very early in the morning.
By mid morning it's ready, and the girls make croissants, pancakes or waffles
We have these for brunch, topped with all the hot crispy bacon that I used to cover the turkey.... it's become the tradition in our household!

Normally, I don't bother - usually go to my daughters.
However, this year, she's working on Christmas day, from 2m to 8pm, in a maternity ward, presumably delivering the immaculate one :-D

I've bought a turkey crown, as I have my grandsons (aged 4 and 6) from 2pm to 8pm :-D

I'm prepared. They will obviously open their presents at home in the morning, but I'll keep my presents here, and they will open them straight after dinner, which they'll get as soon as they arrive.
I've bought them both (amongst other things) a 'minion' onesie each. This will ensure an early bath - as they can't put them on without one - and they'll be ready for bed when mum picks them up :-D :-D :-D

Turkey and Ham again this year. Don't know why we have Ham though . A strange family tradition.

The usual turkey & trimmings dinner on Christmas Eve..... DH wouldn't have it any other way! Just the two of us, so we'll get a turkey breast & a couple of drumsticks (DH's favourite). We usually graze on Christmas day.

We were lucky last weekend, won a couple of raffles at the local club; we won a ham, then we won a gift basket... puddings, biscuits, chocolates, fudge, a bottle of Baileys & a strange glass plate. :-D

I'll be making the "cheat" small puddings on Thursday & take a box of them when we go out on Friday evening.

:-D

Sainsbury's vegetables in cream sauce pie I hope.

I always used to have one. Originally they were shortcrust pastry and they were sumptuous until they improved them and made them with flaky pastry

They were not as good like that but I stuck with them until the next round of improvements saw them being constructed with rosemary pastry which was truly nasty so I stopped eating them for several years.

They don't use the rosemary any more but they are still made with flaky pastry but it is better than bread and pull it..

Bread and dripping, if we have any (both bread and dripping)

Bah humbug

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 16 Dec 2014 08:54

btw, our turkey won't be one of those feathered fiends that have been digging up the garden.

:-(

But........ if I catch one, I'll send it to Allan, to go with his bread & dripping.

Thank you for your kind offer, Scozz, but I couldn't afford to have the oven on for two years continuously only to throw the tough old bird out.

OH wouldn't take kindly to being thrown out either, I would imagine ;-) :-D :-D :-D :-D

Please, this is a genuine question, not one of my usual flippant comments :-0

I notice ham creeping into the UK Christmas Menus...when did this happen?

I left the UK in 1982 and up to then the traditional Christmas dinner was usually Turkey, possibly pork as well

Similarly, when we arrived in Australia, for many years the traditional dinner was Ham and seafood, usually prawns.

Now in Oz the various magazines have recipes for 'traditional' Aussie roast turkey. Still see the hams and seafood etc, but all have equal prominence.

When I was small, we used to have ham on Boxing Day.

Maggie, we had chicken on Christmas Day when I was much younger, but I honestly cannot remember what we had on Boxing Day. With four in the family, there would have been few leftovers.

As I grew older we had Turkey, but the probably left overs for the 26th

I do have bread sauce, which is my absolute favourite part of Christmas dinner , with my pie, as well as stuffing and cranberry sauce.

I just love cold bread sauce the next day.
