Years ago, we were invited for dinner by a couple we know.

I had heard she was very houseproud........ all true, the house was shining.

But.

In the kitchen, hanging above the bench where the food was being prepared, was a budgie cage! Birdseed, feathers, and who knows what else flying everywhere.

:-(

Clean, comfortable and welcoming is what I like to think my house is. I live on my own now so if it isn't I have only got myself to blame.

But..... But..... if you visit a house of a houseproud person it is not always possible to relax and enjoy their company for fear of disturbing the cushions etc, feeling if you leave a dent they will be behind you plumping them up. I don't like a house that is obviously dirty but I do like a homeley one where I can feel comfortable.

Mrs Bucket keeps a tidy house. Yet nobody likes visiting her abode.

On the other hand, a work colleague of mine has a very untidy & somewhat unsanitary establishment. The thought of drinking tea from her brown stained mugs turns my stomach.

On an occasional visit, I politely refuse any refreshment on the basis that I've just had something before leaving home - a lie, of course.

I hope I don't have any visitors before the end of this week.
The shame !

OH is having lots of balance problems now and he wasn't able to get to Mass for about 5 weeks.
Knowing how important his catholic belief is to him I contacted his church and a lady came to see him as his priest was away . She came in and said what a lovely
home you have ,I felt a little uncomfortable ,dont know why but I did .

Anyway the priest was back a few days later and he called .his first words were this is so nice and how clean it is . Guess they may visit some some that are not :-(

We invest so much of our hard earned cash, energy & time in our homes. Then, at the drop of a hat, we lock them up so that we can go away on holidays to somewhere else!

And from past experiences, we know that 'somewhere else' often lacks many of the comforts we enjoy in our home. So, what do we do? We pack our worldly possessions so that we can have some of those 'home comforts' when we get to wherever we are going.

And I haven’t mentioned the possibility of spending a night or two at the dreary/noisy Airport Lounge awaiting the arrival of delayed flights.

I remember now...... another woman said the same thing to me last year...... but she only got as far as the front room...... which we rarely use! We're not in there long enough to get it messy, and it gets a flick over with a duster when I feel like it.

Maybe these women live in filthy houses? They probably don't have a basket of ironing waiting to be done lolol

I'm not a fanatic house-cleaner (I do what I can with a wonky hip!).

One of my sisters in law is (imho) waaay over the top......... every week, she brings a ladder into the house, climbs up and cleans all the light fittings! Mine get a flick with a feather duster if I see a cobweb. Another sister in law is a slob...... walk on their kitchen floor & you hear your shoes sticking to it.

On the subject of houses for sale with agents....... when we were looking, we saw some horrrendous places. Beds unmade, full ashtrays next to beds, dirty dishes all over the place....... one mememorable house had underwear (not clean) on the kitchen bench!

I think she was paying you a huge compliment.

Some people can do it and some can't.Wish I was better at it.

I once interviewed a man who worked as a cleaner and if ever I saw a person doing the job they were made for it was him.

His little flat looked like it was waiting for the estate agent to call. He cleared out and cleaned everything once every week.

These are the people I am in awe of and I think you could say the same for that woman.

A woman was just here, dropping off something for my DH.

I invited her in, and couldn't help but notice she was having a good look around.

Then she said....... oh, you have a lovely house, and it's SO CLEAN!

Did she think we lived in a filthy hovel?

I didn't offer her coffee, just got her to the door as quickly as I could. :-(
