I already do patchwork and am doing all this crafty type stuff for relaxation because I have not had the chance to do it for a long time.

My tastes have changed over the years and I have almost forgotten the hideous attempt at a rag rug that my mother made for our bucket lavvy. There is no emotional attachment to Fred's clothes but I like to get my money's worth out of them. There were times I could have walked on them when he was wearing them!

I have knitted cushion covers because I want to try a few craft type things but don't want to make things I don't want. There are a lot of patterns for clothes you wouldn't want to be seen wearing dead at a rat fight and odd things to put round your neck.Likewise toys, I don't want any.

I am quite looking forward to getting my hooky thing going.

Ooooo... That brings back memories Sharron. Me mam used to make those in the early 1940s.

Pegging, they used to call it, `cos the only tool you needed was a clothes peg.

One leg snapped off and other un whittled to a point. ( Peg that is)

Make it a rule that outdoor shoes shouldn't be worn upstairs, and the carpets will appear unworn for years to come. Our bedroom one is about 20 years old - we spend such little waking time in there that unless you were to move the heavy furniture, you wouldn't realise its age.

Unless you fancy trying your hand at rag-rug making, don't give yourself another task. It is possible to take recycling to extemes. If you are loath to get rid of Fred's clothes because they were his, how are you going to feel about walking on them? Much better to try your hand at patchwork, or take them to a charity shop.

You could keep a set back to make a scare-crow to protect next years crop......unless it would give you a fright.

But...if you've never liked them before will it really be worth the cost of the hessian and all the work that goes into, making them? Will you like them more just because you have made them

I soon will be unearthing the upstairs carpets after their long sleep of eight years and have resigned myself to having to have them cleaned.

They were not very old when they were buried under an awful lot of furniture so most of them is pretty unworn and I would like to keep them that way as long as possible so I have thought about putting rugs on them.

Well, I don't really want to pay out for rugs so I have another idea.

Because nobody wanted a Fred memorial frippery, and who can blame you all, I still have his old clothes, especially shirts and all his bedding.

I like to look on the Suttons Seeds site regularly to see what we might plant on the cheap next year. They have a backlog of hessian sacks they are selling off cheap.

They will be very handy for spuds and such but I thought I might slit the sides of a couple of small ones and make Fred's stuff into rag rugs, which I have never liked before!

I don't actually know how to do it as yet but I am sure it won't be that hard to learn will it?!
