Love it Maggie.

The nearest I've got to being a crim is mild. Got thrown out of the pics for dancing in the aisle when Elvis was on. That's giving my age away, I think.

Budgie, I had a similar instance in Albert Road, Southsea.

We wos just hinnocently celebrating New Year - that is the whole pub (The Royal Albert) in the street, when the plods turned up.

Apparently, we were stopping the traffic.
Well, why didn't they get out of their cars and join in?

So, we went along enticing people out of their cars - and the most fantastic dancing in the street ensued!!! :-D

.......I was 17.....

Our Leslie (whose wife and I share ancestors) found out that my G.grandfather was imprisoned twice in one year I think it was. First off was for petty larceny and near Christmas for obstructing a police officer trying to arrest his cousin! Wonder if my late Grandmother knew about her father in law's misdemeanors, she was so class conscious and snobby.

One of my ancestors did a bit of time for setting fire to some woods in Herefordshire.

I think he must have been the only one in the history of the family ever to go to Herefordshire.

But Maggie my dear, it was the Fuzz that instigated the violence that occurred
There was no problem whatsoever till they intervened.

It was just a friendly Easter Monday tradition between the locals of the two pubs.
( A yearly event so it seems. I was pretty new to the area and I just joined in with the festivity of it all). :-)

I`m a good boy I am.
(and btw, I reckon I was the youngest participating player there). :-D

I'd love to find something like that referring to one of my ancestors :-D

Quite a few of them appear in 'Petty Sessions' in the newspapers, so I suppose that's second- best. Obviously not much to do in Suffolk......

I`ve been decluttering and found this document .

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/keepsafe/asset/details/10871163

I can remember the incident well.
We all got took to the city nick, given a pasting and thrown into cells for a few hours.
We also made front page news in the Nottingham evening Post.
I think the headline was somethink like "The Battle of the Blues".

What did we do that was so bad....
We from "Blue Bell Inn" staged a Football Match against the "Robin Hood Inn" just 25 yds away on the other side of the street.
"Perhaps we should have gone on to the park for the game instead of kicking off on the main road" ha, ha.
We had quite decent crowd growing, 2 to 3 hundred watching I believe.

Then along came just one lone copper and decides it was just not on, and called for reinforcements after he was told in no uncertain terms to "move along laddie" dont interupt the annual footie match.(or words to that effect) he,he.

Anyways as with all good heated footie games it ended up with a little bit of agro and the "Dark Blues" ended up "beating" the "Blue bell Inn" lads about 7 nil.
(dont know about Blue Bells, but they knocked 7 Bells out of all us lads).

Ps, I was the only one found not guilty as charged in the court appearance.
(I wonder what they did with my set of fingerprints)
