I think he might have realized he had overstretched himself and, rather than go into overtrading that would have meant he could not fulfill the contract but might have held him open to be sued for breach (I think) which would have been expensive, he cut his losses and handed the problem over to somebody else.

Very wise man I would say.

Uzzi, just a thought, because obviously I don't know, but I wonder if your father felt that running a business which operated at that level ( going by the amount of the contract) was, or had been, a drain on his life and he didn't want that for you? If there is something in our own lives that we see was a negative factor, then maybe we'd want not to pass that on?

That's the troubloe when someone has gone, you can only guess at their motives, but if your relationship with your dad was good, then I would give him the benefit of the doubt and say that what he did he had a good reason for, or felt it was a good reason at the time anyway and other family members, though they may know the bare facts can't know the thought process behind the decision?

Many many years ago my Dad took his firm into volontary liquidation. I couldnĀ“t understand why. I thought it was because I was a girl and could not take over.
This year I was told that Dad had a million pound contract he did not have to fold.I thought I knew
Tonight the jigsaw slotted in.My Uncle confirmed.

Did I really want to know ?Did I really need to know ?
