Firstly, I make sure that the turkey is dead & is beyond caring whether frozen or roasted. I dislike the drunken turkey gobbling at me from the dinner table.

Then I ensure the feathers have been removed before cooking. Smouldering feathers throw off the most merciful pungent smell that even the cat refuses to stay in the kitchen.

Turkey sandwich anyone?

I thought the rule was, if it has four legs you can cook it from frozen, less than four, you defrost first!!

Anyway, thanks for the input - I shall carry on defrosting it :-D

Hi Ann, I always defrost before cooking, I would be wary about cooking it from frozen.

As someone said on here, cook it as you always do. Enjoy your dinner!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR to everyone.

My DIL cooks a whole turkey from frozen and when it's thawed out enough in the oven she reaches in and pulls out the bag of giblets.

I've been reading about this happening :-S... but I'm an 'old cook' and certainly wouldn't cook poultry from frozen... but then always some things changing (think there's probably an uptodate freezing method now?)
Anyway however you choose, roast it well enough and enjoy your dinner.

Mau :-D

Tecwyn Report 24 Dec 2014 13:03

That doesn't sound right to me Ann. I always thought poultry had to be properly defrosted before cooking.
Maybe I'm wrong, and others will advise, but that's what I would do.

Tec :-)
