Hi Margee,
My mothers real father went on the marry the daughter of his mother`s sister, they never had children together they had both lost their spouses at about the same time.
I suppose it was a kind of marriage of convenience, 2 lonely people with 5 children between them to consider.

As the saying goes... "There`s nowt so queer as folk" (or Family) :-D

I have a similar one, Budgie. My mother was orphaned and was brought up by an aunt & uncle. The aunt was her mother's sister and the uncle was her father's brother 2 sisters had married 2 brothers.

Snap!... well sort of Sharron,,

My mother was unofficially adopted at a few weeks old.
I never knew none of this up till a few years ago (in my 60`s), when I started doing my family history.
I have since found out that the married couple who brought her up and who she lived with as their daughter for a little over 25 years up until she had me, were blood related all round, to me and my mother.

I don't really know how it pans out, but mothers adopted parents are as follows...
One was my Grandmothers Brother, and his wife was Grandfathers sister.
So the couple who she knew as her parents were actually her Uncle and aunt as well
That makes make them my Great uncle and Aunt? as well as my adopted grandparents, I think. :-S

Edit... I found it rather comforting to know that my mother was blood related to both her adopted parents. Cant get any closer than that without it being incestuous.

So Fred's Uncle on his mother's side married Fred's cousin on his Father's side.

Your Great Uncle married your second cousin, I think Sharron.

Sometimes there are big ages differences in families - when I was born in 1947 I had many cousins who were 20 and over and seemed a whole generation away from me, more like extra aunts and uncles. My Mum and Dad were 31 and 35 when I was born, they had met after the war when both were unmarried (Mum's fiance died of tb during the early 40s) and Dad was in the Army in Egypt, Burma and Palestine.

So, how are they related to me?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 27 Dec 2014 01:35

OK, that's better, Sharron, only a generation apart.

Fred's mother's brother married the daughter of Fred's father's sister.

Are you sure of this, Sharron? And I quote:

"Fred's mother's brother married the daughter of Fred'd father's sister's daughter"

If so it means that Fred's uncle married Fred's cousin's daughter. They'd be 2 generations apart!

I thought some my rellies from small Scottish villages were a bit suss, lots of them marrying 1st & 2nd cousins...... then I found the rellies who went to Utah...... I know why the LDS do all the research! Men with 11 wives, loads of kids...... and a few generations later.......... confusion!

Fred's mother's brother married the daughter of Fred'd father's sister's daughter.

Somebody asked me how I was related to their son and I told her she should know better than ask a question like that in a Sussex village!

If you want to add the spouse to Bill Tate then select him
Select Add
Select Spouse
Select Find Existing and type in Vera Tate (assuming you have already put her in the tree).
As soon as she appears as a choice then select her.

Welcome to the boards Duncan.

I'm not certain but I don't think it used to be possible to have cousins marrying on the Genes Tree (although you can on other off line trees).

Perhaps you could ask Genes for help with this.

My grandad, Bill Tate, had the same great grandad as my nana,Vera Tate, ( her maiden name was Tate). Does anyone know how can connect this link up on my tree?
