'Changelings' - It is typically described as being the offspring of a fairy, troll, elf or other legendary creature that has been secretly left in the place of a human child. Sometimes the term is also used to refer to the child who was taken.

The apparent changeling could also be a stock or fetch, an enchanted piece of wood that would soon appear to grow sick and die. The theme of the swapped child is common among medieval literature and reflects concern over infants thought to be afflicted with unexplained diseases, disorders, or developmental disabilities.

A human child might be taken due to many factors: to act as a servant, the love of a human child, or malice. Most often it was thought that fairies exchanged the children. Some Norwegian tales tell that the change was made to prevent inbreeding: to give trolls and humans new blood, humans were given children with enormous strength as a reward.

In some rare cases, the very elderly of the Fairy people would be exchanged in the place of a human baby, and then the old fairy could live in comfort, being coddled by its human parents.

Simple charms, such as an inverted coat or open iron scissors left where the child sleeps, were thought to ward them off; other measures included a constant watch over the child.

Evening peeps, well this thread certainly got the tongues wagging didn't it?

It's quite amazing what turns up in papers all over the world and goodness knows why such ridiculous stories are printed.

Yes PH u r right James Hewitt not the Gilbey fellow. But you have to admit the likeness to him is very striking.

I wonder what the royals make of all the gossip in the papers and do they ever talk about it amongst themselves, probably they do just as we would ;-)

This was a light hearted thread, so hope noone took it too seriously :-D

Florence

I believe that one of the "Red Tops" obtained the necessary to have a DNA test on Harry, and it proved beyond any doubt that he is the son of Charles. He looks just like Diana's side of the family. Where these storied start is unfathomable. I have a friend who is convinced that the Duke of Edinburgh had Diana killed. Much as I don't like, (to put it mildly) either of my former daughters in law, I certainly wouldn't want to see the mothers of my grandchildren dead. Bob

to a surrogate mother......

fan websites buzzing with her first-time novel.

In The Disappearance of Olivia, Ryan, 62, weaved a twisted plot that involves Buckingham Palace and in-vitro fertilization.

Princess Diana in 1990

What if Princess Di had a secret biological daughter whose mere existence threatened the monarchy, former media buyer Ryan asks — at a time when the real life leaders of the Commonwealth countries decided that first-born girls would have as much right to the throne as boys!

“Remember, it’s only fiction,” Ryan says. “I’d hate to start rumors! But a lot of readers seem to want to believe everything in the book is true.”

The book starts in late 1980, months before Diana Spencer married Prince Charles.

British authorities wanting to verify that Diana was indeed fertile force her to a doctor who harvests her eggs and fertilize them with Charles’ swimmers.

Fertilization occurred as planned and, upon confirmation that Diana is able to have children, officials order the embryos destroyed.

All are destroyed, except for one! And a fertility doc decides to implant it into his sterile wife.

Olivia is is born more than a year before Prince William.

The novel then turns into a thriller centered around a plot to kill Olivia.

“We published the book on Oct. 24, on the day that the new law allowing girls into the succession,” Ryan said. “I had the idea for this plot about a year ago. I was watching a show about in-vitro fertilization and I started day-dreaming about what ifs.”

The book, she said, is as much about the science of creating life as it is about the royal family.

“Needless to say, it shows a side of the royals that’s not too flattering,” Ryan said. “This whole monarchy thing is so silly.”

I think it says a lot for Harry that with all the gossip about his parents that he hasn't allowed it to spoil his relationship with his brother and father, DNA test or no DNA test. Good for him.

I look like my mum, my brother does not, like Harry he looks like his uncle. I'm just amazed that one of the rags didn't suggest incest ( wouldn't put it past them).

The STORY about the sister is fiction, and poor fiction at that :-0 Next someone will be telling me that 'Alien' was a documentary..................
