Assuming that he was buried/cremated from a Lewisham address, Lewisham BC can search their records to find out how his remains were disposed within the borough

Bereavement Services
Tel: 020 8314 9635
Fax:020 8697 3260
Email:[email protected]

As they are likely to make a charge, order the DC first as he may have died in a Lewisham hospital but lived 'out of the borough'

Got it!

Name: Arthur George Collins
Birth Date: 6 Mar 1930
Date of Registration: Sep 1995
Age at Death: 65
Registration district: Lewisham
Inferred County: London
Register Number: D35A
District and Subdistrict: 2421D
Entry Number: 254

No corresponding entry on Deceased on line.

If you want to view the details of the DC, use the above references to order from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

NOT your relative, but an internet search result for District number 2421D

She died on 28 August 1998 in Lewisham
"GRO Death Index: Martha Elizabeth Phillips - Death Registration Month/Year: Sep 1998 Age at death (estimated): 98 Registration district: Lewisham Inferred County: London Register number: D41A District and Subdistrict: >>>2421D<<< Entry Number: 101".

So 2421D does indeed refer to Lewisham.

If there is no relevant entry on deceased on line, you will need to purchase the certificate to find out his home address, then research local cemeteries and crematorium.

In this context, Graham is correct - it refers to the gro reference you would need to order a copy of the relevant certificate

If the Lewisham connection is correct, then try http://deceasedonline.com/
He may have been cremated or buried at Eltham Cemetery/Crematorium.

Alternatively, if you could copy and paste the full transcription we can work out what it is you are seeing

If you found that district number from the index to the death records, then it probably refers to the registration district. I've seen that district number mentioned on other threads in relation to births, marriages and deaths recorded in Lewisham. The burial might have taken place in the same district; but that's not for certain.

There is a site you can search called find a grave. You might need to have some idea of area.
