Just seen some of the fires on our news, it's devastating for people to lose their homes and also their beloved pets if they went away over Christmas etc Hoping things will get better soon and the fires can be extinguished or burn out without further harm to anyone.

We live on the edge of the hills at Golden Grove.
We evacuated as the fire was erratic and we were getting constant warnings.
The traffic as we left at 3am was like peak hour
A lot of people were driving into the fire zone so the police had to restrict access.
Some friends at Gumeracha has to evacuate on Friday and take tall heir animals.
They are staying in a house of friends that are on holidays in Western Australia, their dog was in the kennel that was destroyed by fire.
I searched on the new sites and as luck would have it, I found a photo of the friends was on a news website (refer below).

The dog (Taylor) is now being cared for at the Tea Tree gully vet unit.

There always some good luck stories when these disasters occur.
Our friends from Gumeracha do not know when they can return as the fires are still active in some areas.

Happy new year to all

My brother is OK, but there is lots of smoke where he lives (in the suburbs of Adelaide).

I have just heard from my friend in Adelaide , she is safe .

The bush fires are in the hills but she said they rarely get as far as the city. :-)

i messaged my friend who loves on the outskirts of Adelaide early today and said that if she didn't message me back i would presume she was in the area of the fires...

she never messaged me back...so hope to hear something from her soon.

What an awful start to the new year Scozz. I do hope that they can get the fires under control soon. Thinking of all those poor people. <3

Just saw that a boarding kennel caught fire, all the animals perished, about 40 dogs & cats. Poor things, a horrible way to die, they would have been terrified.

and...... there are some people going around, collecting money for the CFS....... the CFS have been on the news, saying they are NOT collecting money. If these people are truly collecting donations, good for them, but if they're not.......... what scum they are!

<3 Ann

I was living in Adelaide in 1983, when the "Ash Wednesday" fires happened.

In the foothills, nowhere near the fires, but my roof & garden were covered with ash, and the smoke was awful. I had to go to the hills a few weeks after the fires, for work, and couldn't stop crying. The smell of ash was everywhere.

If your cousin is in Adelaide suburbia, she should be OK.

I have many friends who live in the hills, I hope they are safe.

I used to live in the foothills in Adelaide, I've seen the Adelaide hills ablaze.

Devastating.

Many homes have been destroyed, as well as livestock and wildlife. I believe some firefighters have been injured.

My heart goes out to them.
