Dear Lavender

Hello

A modest sewing machine doesn't cost that much now nor do fabrics and patterns in the sales.

Treat yourself and enjoy! :-) <3

Take gentle care
With best wishes

It is certainly a thought, Linda. I will have a look to see if there are any in my area. I'm not in any hurry. I'm wondering if I shall get over this 'itch to stitch'!

I seem to remember having this urge in January. It's the dark evenings, nothing much to occupy them, and more energy to think about projects as not expended in the garden.

I did see a machine in Al*i only a few months ago. I hadn't the thought in my mind then *Sparkly* Liz, my daughter and I looked at each other and wondered what was wrong with it ! It was a S*nger, probably just old stock, maybe.

I have an ancient Singer given me by a GreatAunt when I was 12, I think I had it serviced once. Still use it now and then, o.h needs his new jimjam trousers shortened cos he's little so will get it out soon. I should get it serviced again I think and that's probably all yours needs. Otherwise look on Gumtree or ask for one on there, might remind someone there is a redundant machine at the back of a cupboard. Lidls or Aldi sometimes sell new machines.

lavender- I would only buy something like a sewing machine that was local enough to be able to collect and then you can make sure you see it working before you pay for it. if it doesn't work to your satisfaction don't actually purchase it. A genuine seller will be quite happy to show it to you working. If they are not then I wouldn't purchase

Ha ha, Detective! No, I used it to put gifts in the post for my elderly parents!

Never thought to do that, Linda. I might be worried about what I was buying, might be worse than my old one x

I would have a look on Ebay - there are often good bargains for second hand sewing machines where I think people think they are going to 'get sewing' and it doesn't happen so they sell a hardly used machine for very little.

Did you wrap up an empty box? :-D

I've just gone back to using mine.

Just before Christmas I was requested to make Harry Potter's cloak of invisibility.
One happy grandson on Christmas day.

I don't make clothes for grandchildren but machine has come in handy for making dressing up clothes and dolls clothes.

I say treat yourself and enjoy sewing again :-D :-D :-D

It's probably cheaper to buy the dresses in the end but not so much satisfaction, sadly.

It has suddenly occurred to me that the Si*ger sewing machine I was expecting has not materialised!

I wrote on another thread that whilst looking for an empty cardboard box to send through the post, I found one with Si*ger Husquav*rna written on the exterior.

I had already been rehearsing my 'ooooh, I could never have guessed'!!

Yet, it didn't arrive. There was no wrapped sewing machine under the Christmas tree!

I told my oh that I had not received my Xmas pressie!! We had a good laugh..

Apparently, my daughter had something delivered in the said box!

Now, I'm left with itchy fingers… I have an old machine, but it's clunky and doesn't stitch well. He offered to buy me one.

I'm left pondering. If I had loads of free time, my eyes were better, fabric and patterns less expensive, I should love to make my twin granddaughters pinafore dresses.

And yet the ones in the shops are probably much more beautiful than anything I could create, and I wouldn't be thinking of buying a new machine?

I haven't decided yet.

:-)
