Dear All

Hello

On this day in 1910, the first public radio broadcast took place at the
Metropolitan Opera House in New York with performances
from several famous opera singers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first public radio broadcast consisted of performances of
"Cavalleria Rusticana" and "Pagliacci".

Riccardo Martin performed as Turridu, Emmy Destinn as Santuzza,
and Enrico Caruso as Canio. The conductor was Egisto Tango.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The New York Times reported on January 14, 1910:

“ It will soon be possible to distribute grand opera music from transmitters placed on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House by a Radio Telephone station on the roof to almost any dwelling in Greater New York and vicinity.

The same applies to large cities. Church music, lectures, etc., can be spread abroad by the Radio Telephone".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These pioneers lead the way to developing crystal sets, radios, TV's and all technology we have today and which is taken for granted. <3

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take gentle care
With best wishes
Elizabeth, EOS

A bit before my time EOS!
I first got an unimpressive job in radio in1958 - but it didn't last long. I must admit that the quality of the sounds transmitted now is vastly superior to what we achieved then; but the quality of what is transmitted now is...
Okay, showing my age, grumpy old git I am.;-)

I listen to UK radio most of the day. I pick from across all the local and national radio stations. I prefer radio to TV. There are a few TV programmes I watch and enjoy but I would prefer to be without TV rather than my radio.

I love those 2 operas, saw them out here.

I have just been listening to a programme on Radio Cumbria from last Sunday, it was brilliant.

Thank you Elizabeth for highlighting this event, :-) <3

Dear All

Hello

Thank you for the replies.

Dear Pat, I usually switch the Television on and then turn down the sound!

I go over to the large bookcase and plug in the radio.

When doing housework, I dance around the sitting room to the music!
