I can't remember seeing snow for the first time but, then again it snows here quite a bit anyway. ( like today. yesterday and the day before!)

I was born on a very snowy day in Feb 1958 , and delivered by a midwife who pedalled her bicycle through a blizzard to get to the house.

My 3 older siblings weren't interested in me, only the bicycle !
:-( :-(

my Dad made me a sledge and being an engineer he put steel runners on it - it was so heavy and living half way up the mountain road made is hard to pull it to the top to sledge down - however, coming back down on it was a breeze -literally!!! One day I had to take the radio battery down to the local village to get it filled with acid - we had a lot of snow around the cottage so I put the battery on the sledge and pulled it down the road - however, when I reached the bottom they had no snow so I had to drag this sledge with the steel runners along two long roads which had no snow!!!

Dear Ann

Hello

Oh yes!

We still went to school, even thought the snow was literally up to our knees.
The boots really gripped on the snow, so you could still stand upright!

It was fine, powdery snow that was unmarked by blemishes or footprints.

It looked surreal.

I remember thinking how beautiful it was.

Take gentle care
Best wishes
Elizabeth,
xx

Ann I cant remember the first time but one of the best times I remember was my Dad making us a sledge from pallet wood when the snow was really heavy ....He put cushions on it and strapped them with a bungee then pulled us for miles........fun times and happy times <3 <3

Sheer luxury!

Erroll, it was 'wonderful' during 1962/63.
The caravan was completely engulfed - but it made wonderful insulation.
However, in 'those days' caravans didn't usually have a bathroom, and the loo was usually a bucket located in a shed.
Caravan doors open outwards - but they don't open at all when snow has drifted against it.
There were 2 adults and 4 children in that caravan........

Being the youngest,(I was 6) I had my own potty to save me going outside to the loo in the evening :-D

in 1947, when I was living in a little cottage on the side of Caerphilly mountain, we woke up to find snow as high as the bedroom windows!!!

I recall seeing horrendous snow at Lossie

maggiewinchester Report 14 Jan 2015 18:01

I was 5. We'd moved from Malta to Lossiemouth (NE Scotland).
Not only that, we were living in a converted double decker bus in the middle of a field of cows!!
However, I wasn't in the bus when I first saw it. I was actually in isolation in Banchory Sanitorium, and saw it from my bed, out of the French windows. I asked Ian, in the next room, if it was snow.
The rooms were divided by a huge window (with curtains), and we used to communicate by writing on paper, and holding it up.

The next year - 1962 - we were in a caravan - and got snowed in!
