Somewhere, I have a wall hanging barometer and thermometer in a rather gross maroon leather case (relic from my gran's house I think)

I had it up for a few years, then I noticed it and took it down.

I had a problem finding out what the pressure was to set the barometer.
Now, I suppose I could look online.
*task for tomorrow (perhaps) - find it and hang it up again*

We have a "real" barometer on the wall in the hall.

The string is more reliable :-D

The barometer has been stuck on "change" for a week...... change to what??

Personally, I use a brick on the back doorstep.
If it's wet - it's raining
If I can't see it, and it's white - it's snowing
If it's on the kitchen floor - I'll get that ****** hooligan who threw it through the window

with a piece of string :-D

Tie or nail a piece of string (at least 30cm long) to a post or a tree in your garden.

If the string is wet ~ it’s raining
If the string is dry ~ it’s not raining
If the string is swaying – it’s windy
If the string is horizontal ~ it’s very windy
If you can't see the string ~ it's foggy
If the string casts a shadow ~ it’s sunny
If the string is stiff ~ it’s very cold
If the string is smoking ~ the house is on fire
If the string is missing ~ thieves are about

:-D

An extra one for me......

If the string is hot, damp, mouldy and limp......you live in the subtropics
