Hubby is now the proud owner of his stair lift . It was installed today and am so relieved because I was soooo worried he would fall down the stairs because his balance is so bad

Mind you it nearly didnt happen!! the engineer arrived in the pouring rain I opened the door and said to him its brand new carpet only been down a week so will need dust sheets down to protect it. NOPE they arent allowed Health and Safety in case they slip on it . SOOO then take off your shoes/boots please NOPE they are metal toe caps again health and safety .!!

Stalemate!! I said its new carpet and you have dirty wet boots and no way do I want the carpet soiled as it cant be replaced with the stair lift in situ AND i aint going to shampoo new carpet that gets soiled . I told the guy I am thinking forget it BUT hubby needs the chairlift in . Why wasnt I told that they wont protect the furnishings when we ordered ??

Well must say the guy was very apologetic, he said they had been issued with the blue plastic overshoe bags that are used in operating theatres but now have been told they cant use em . he did though say if you have some plastic bags I will put them over my boots.

Result !! he worked with them on and I was happy the carpet wasnt getting soiled

I dont think I was being fussy .we have waited to get the hall and stairs repainted till grandson had the time to do it for us ,which he did two weeks ago . Plus been waiting since July to get new carpet after we lost our cat who had peed on the lower landing so it needed replacing which we didnt want to do till it was all freshened up

Glad it got sorted. Well done for sticking to your guns!

We had insulation put in the ceiling a while back. The superviser (and his off-sider) visited us a few days later to inspect the job. They had to borrow a small ladder so that they could stick their heads through the "manhole" in the ceiling.

It was a very wet day and they traipsed through the house with wet boots, leaving marks everywhere. I pointed out the marks, and they said H&S insists they wear steel toecap boots on construction sites.

Construction site? They were in the house, no construction happening!

Bl**dy rude, if you want my opinion. :-|

As LadyScozz say - well done for sticking to your guns!
I never bother about cleaning the floor etc if workmen are coming for the same reason (any excuse) :-D

Oooh - what fun you can have on the stairlift!!
You can see who is quickest - legs or lift
Send the dirty bedding downstairs in style
Send the morning cuppa up by lift

Allsorts!! :-D :-D :-D

If I had a chairlift, I'd use it for the baskets of clean washing :-)

But if I did, DH wouldn't feel needed :-D

It's crazy about the rules and regs, the men should have spare conforming footwear that's kept for indoor work. I am glad tney didn't spoil your new carpet. You must be so relieved that your stairlift is in to help your hubby stay safe

One of the local plumber always puts on those blue shoe bags as soon as he comes in the front door.

Has he been like a kid with a new toy - up and down trying it out.

Silly thing is the guy said they had been issued with the plastic over shoes but have now been told not to use them in case they slip on the carpet .

Hubby did use it to come up to bed with me leaning over the the top, bannister giving the orders lol He was flummoxed a bit because of his alzeimer so I had to come down and unfold the chair and help him on it .he started to make it move . HOLD ON ! I had to hike it up the stairs pretty pronto .

He got off at the top ok

This morning I was ??? Can't get past it to go downstairs so whey hey I came down on it and then sent it up again to wait for hubby to get up

And, of course plastic bags over his boots were just as dangerous as overshoes. Wonder why they don't make the overshoes things with non slip bases. (cost!!!).

That's what I thought Anne but wasn't going to say in case he changed his mind !!

Think when he realised I was going to say NOPE forget it ,he thought he would be in trouble with his company so he came up with the compromise .

Nice guy .dont get me wrong but was tied by his company rules

Trouble was Dizzi it's was had been raining and the ground was still very wet

Our frontage is paved over so it was all very wet .

Wet boots would activate any dirt etc on shoes to give wet footprints etc I didn't want new carpet soiled after only a week

The carpet is all wool so wasn't cheap to put down plus any carpet in situ is fixed down by the chair lift rail so not easily renewed
