Amami, oh I remember that. We were quite lucky in that Mum and Dad got a new council house when I was 2 and my brother newborn so we had a bathroom with hot water from the start.

I am still waiting for the shower to be finished that o.h. started in 2007, good job we kept the bath or I would be a bit smelly by now lol

Always think I could go back to earlier times and manage fine, but I could not cope with woollen underwear or primitive plumbing! ;-)

But we didn't smell Shirley and were not any less healthy. I sometimes think we are too clean.

when we had the bathroom remodeled we got rid of the bath that was a cast iron one . Both of us had difficulty with using it as a bath cos it was so deep . One time I was stuck in it for several hours cos I couldnt get up to get out

We used the bath as a shower tray so we got rid and had a big corner shower installed .

To be honest I think its more hygienic to shower every day rather than strip wash and bath a couple of times a week

When i was a kid Saturday was bath night in a bungalow bath in the kitchen with the water being topped up every so often and mum and dad taking their bath after al the kids had been done including hair washes .

it was a saying in the 1940,s that Saturday was Armami day ie Armami then was a hair shampoo.

we thought we were clean then with a once a week bath

Today’s bathroom has some wonderful ideas never seen in my young days, such as under-floor heating, ‘his and her’ sinks, and roll-top baths on a plinth with Jacuzzi jet streams to tickle the places that nature never intended.

The shower is no longer an off-white rubber tube attached to the two bath taps – looking like the original implement for an enema. It now has a rain-shower head that recreates a downpour in the jungle albeit with loads of hot water and soap.

We have wet rooms where the water flows through a drain in the middle of the floor – something that we also had in my young days but it was more to do with a leak than a design feature.

I sometimes grow nostalgic for the old days when a home had one functional bathroom with a sink, a toilet and a bath – and that was a huge step up from the outside loo plus a tin bath in front of the open fire, filled with hot water from a kettle, on a Saturday night. :-D

We used to have an electric shower that got replaced several times as each one conked out.

When we had the bathroom remodeled we bit the bullet and had a shower that fed off the the gas multipoint and boy was it more efficient. We have now a power shower that is great. The only thing is if someone turns on a hot tap or flushes the downstairs loo it throttles back cos the cold water flow is reduced BUT it doesnt shut off just loses some of its flow but still ok to keep on showering.

Had a hard job though convincing BG that the electric meter wasnt faulty because of the lower usage.

its cheaper running it off the gas we find

Just fitted a new shower off the combi to replace the electric one (I could pee faster and warmer than that did in winter :-D) been putting the job off for ages.
Wow no more running around to get wet! Why did I leave it so long!

Ain't it great when you have thought about a job so long and suddenly it's done ;-).

I suppose I had better sort out the linen cupboard now, we had it all pulled to bits to have the flue for the new boiler a year ago this month and the contents are still living in the spare room! Ah well no rest for the wicked ;-)
