'A dependant script has failed to load' - when I try to open articles from The British Newspaper section on Find my Past I keep getting this message and an otherwise blank page.
Anyone know what this is connected with and how I can solve it please?

What browser are you using? Is it up to date?

I have 2- Internet Explorer and firefox, both as far as I know up to date and the same thing happens with both.

Sounds like a javascript issue.

I wondered that myself Errol but how do I check if my Java is up to date?

Do you mean Java or Javascript?

Pammy51 Report 3 Feb 2015 18:01

Not sure - which one would be relevant? :-S

Sorry, just realised you put javascript in your post - I can find Java in my programs list but not Javascript.

ok it sounds like you MAY need to enable Javascript.

Is that the only website on which the problem occurs or have you seen it happen elsewhere?

I do sometimes get a notice that says something like 'a long running script is not loading' on pages with adverts etc but FMP is the only one i've tried to access newspaper pages.

Advertisements (of which there are a plethora on virtually every website) can often cause or at least exacerbate this problem.

However, just out of interest, try installing and then running Malwarebytes which you can do by going here:

http://tinyurl.com/b2eqycb

Fill in the form, click on submit and follow the instructions.

If you have a problem give me a shout and I will talk you through it.

Once you have done the above, try this for Internet Explorer:

Click on the Tools menu and select "Internet options" at the bottom.
Click on the Advanced tab towards the top right of the box that opens up.
In the Settings area scroll down to the Browsing section.
Make sure that there are ticks next to "Disable script debugging (Internet Exporer)" and "Disable script debugging (Other)".
If there is a tick next to "Display a notification about every script error" then remove it.
Restart Internet Explorer and see if you still have a problem - if you do there are a couple of other things you can do.

Do you know which version of Internet Explorer you are using?
We can look at Firefox later.

AdBlock will say bye bye to most annoying ads.

NoScript will ensure that Javascript will only run on sites with yr permission - which can be temp or permanent.

Both add ons are are free.

Thank you for the advice - I'll try them out tomorrow.

Errol, I have installed Malwarebytes and all was fine.

Done all you said for Internet Explorer but I still seem to have the same problem.

Not sure what version of IE I have.

Rollo, will try AdBlock and NoScript to see if that improves matters.

Thank you both (and Rose) for your time
