Yours sincerely,
Tesco Bank estatement service

I have to say this email is a worry as tescobank.com is their genuine email. estatement isn´t theirs. I often check the return email address as some of them are amusing

I don´t bank with Tesco´s we don´t have them in Spain but how many people do and would click their links ? The other worry with this one is the spelling and grammer is good

:-S :-0 :-( :-|

The latest Paypal one is quite convincing too. :-(

Maggie it is getting scarey :-(

eRRolSheep Report 2 Feb 2015 18:12

The grammar is indeed good.

However, as you say, always check the return address.

anything looking dodgy I right click on the address and it opens up the message in text,

without actually opening it........

Errol I did check on google tescobank.com and it is their email.

Bob I never click links on emails but will always go in by the website on google.

That is me who doesnt have a tesco account and don´t have 2 pennies anyway. I feel for the oldies who have learnt internet banking but are not that sure so they will click :-(

I can see a preview of all messages (Microsoft Outlook) .........

so I just hold the mouse pointer over any email address in the body of the message ..................

it's highly amusing to see what some of those are :-)

Island Report 2 Feb 2015 19:26

not so amusing when it's your own email ad :-(

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 2 Feb 2015 19:29

If it appears to be your own email address then it is purely a spoofed address - dead easy to do. Look at the return path.

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 2 Feb 2015 20:33

I'm afraid the Paypal one was very good. The address could have been genuine.
So, I opened another tab and looked at my account (which was apparently blocked due to 'misuse')
No activity for ages - and I could open it - so e-mail deleted.
Still peed off at having to waste time :-(

:-S So the much advised hovering of the cursor isn't so reliable after all? :-S

Where might one look at the 'return path', whatever that is, Errol and to what avail?

Kay????

An easy spot with Paypal.........they use your full name,,,not just Dear Customer or omit any named person,,,,,,if it hasnt got your name on,,,,,,bin it.

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 2 Feb 2015 23:07

I realised that, Kay, when I looked online to see what anti-scam websites had to say about it.
Nevertheless, it was very good.

I don't even bother checking PayPal if it appears in my box ..................

I've never ever had an account with them, so it can't possibly be anything other than a scam :-)

and yes, I have had communications from "PayPal" re "your" account :-)

I keep getting one from HSBC.
I don´t have any accounts with English banks & never banked with HSBC.
Not even sure if the bank still exists.
Haven´t opened any of them. Just delete straight away.

Had a thread sometime ago about BT emails that are spam

Appear to come from bt.com and look amazing like genuine ones but they want you to click on a link and change bank details or credit card details etc.

Got one from HSBC a couple of days ago and not my bank.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 3 Feb 2015 17:52

it's the Royal Bank of Scotland that amuses me when I get it :-D

I've also had at least 2 other English banks

we have not had any bank accounts outside Canada since the 1970s ...............and I wasn't with any of those banks before I left the UK in the '60s
