It must be disheartening that there are so few reviews. May be some of the successful applicants are 'free' members so can't post?

It can be difficult to write a review; I tend to read for the story line, not to analyse it! - if other people are in the same boat, then at least they could write "I enjoyed this" or "Not really my cup of tea".

Vera. Good to hear that you eventually enjoyed Book of Golden Leaves - its one I didn't apply for. Fingers crossed for you and Ann that you are allocated a copy of the latest offering.

You're probably right Ann. I wonder how many people did give up on The Book of Gold Leaves. I nearly did myself early on but then eventually got in to it and liked it.

I have applied for five books and got four of them so presumably one at least had more than 50 applicants. I hope you get the latest one.

I did think that, at the beginning something was said like 'all we'd like is a review of the book' which is why I always review it. I also don't think GR always put up a review thread so sometimes we get several as people put up their own threads. I was expecting to see a lot of reviews. I wonder actually how many requests they do get. If Greaders is anything to go by, people prefer to do their own choice of reading. I don't think they send out 50 books otherwise I wouldn't get one every time I ask for one. (watch now I won't get this one :-) :-))

I wonder how many people gave up on the book of gold leaves, it would be interesting to know.

Having looked on Amazon I don't think this one is for me either so I won't be applying this time.

If 50 books are sent out each time, isn't it a bit disheartening how few reviews there are? The Book of Gold Leaves only has 3 reviews so far. Perhaps there will be one or two more.

I'm so pleased to receive the books free of charge that I almost feel obliged to write something though I know it isn't a condition for getting the books, so I am not really criticising anyone who doesn't feel able to write something.

Hadn't realised that it had been released in hardback - the Amazon page I'd picked up was advertising the paperback release tomorrow. That's why I'd assumed Penguin had given GR the copies to distribute!

Any book exposure must be welcome by the author - perhaps the publishers hope that free copies will lead to purchases of other books by the same person?

I have applied for it because often those that appeal I don't like so I think maybe this will be vice versa. How do you think they choose which ones to send out, and why. This one has been well reviewed on Amazon in hardback form so they can't need the reviews.

Yes it wouldn't be difficult to let us have the blurb off the cover.

Thanks for pointing it out Ann - It would be helpful if they'd give the publisher's Blurb, don't you think?

Having had a look on Amazon, its not one that appeals to me, but is sure to for many other people.
