I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to find my Aunt's death record but not having much luck. All I know is that she was living in Southhampton, England at her time of death.
I have a rough idea of the year, unfortunately I was never notified of her death. This truly saddens me as she was the last living relative of my father's who has also passed away.
I have put her name in and selected the death and placed the year I believe she died but not coming up with any info.
Please help, thanks.....Frances

It may be too recent (after 2005/6) for GR. Ancestry goes up to 2013 and there's a free weekend coming up.

If it's before 2005/6 don't put the year in as that maybe incorrect.

She may have died away from Southampton, I've had a relative die on holiday and my OH's aunt had to have a complex operation so was taken 50 miles away from her home into London - she died during the op so registered at Greenwich.

You stated you only had a rough idea of the year of her death, so you do need to widen your search parameters.

Rather than 1 year, put in a 2 +/- range, using just her surname. You might get a lot of results, but then you can reduce them, bit by bit, by adding area, then shorten the list by adding first name, then looking age age at death, you should be able to tie down themore likely results.

Frances,

You could try this site.

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

and just put in the surname and a rough year of death

When you put in the year of death in the first box you can put a year say up to 25 years to search.

If you need any help send a pm to me and I will try and help.

At the moment freebmd only fully cover to 1970 and don't have any later than 1974.

After 2005/2006 see if her estate went to Probate. Not everyone's does.

The most up to date records are in local Records Offices.
Any Records Office in England holds all the Births Marriages and Deaths for the whole of England
To join is free. Just take along proof of your name, address and signature or pick up a temporary one-day ticket.
If she did die in Southampton, the registry office (where the death would have been registered) is:
6A Bugle Street
Southampton
023 8063 1422

Not sure if Bugle Street can help - but you'd have nothing to lose!! :-D
