Early cameras had a long exposure time - the modern ones will often catch people mid chat. The fish-face/letter box look is not attractive! |

When did it become compulsory to smile for a photo? Passport photos excepted. |

When I had my bus pass issued the woman at the council office took the photo, she did it so suddenly I look like a frightened rabbit caught in the headlights lol Bus drivers are happy with it, I am not! |

I realise that IGP but when you are in the booth and the 'lady' is telling you to remove glasses, how do you know if, after leaving them pon and paying £5 they will not have glare on them? You can only tell that after the photo is printed. I wasn't prepared to risk it. And, the sad thing is I am obviously recognisable from the photo as the post office clerk didn't query it. |

According to Gov.uk you are not actually obliged to remove glasses, however, the photo must comply with the following:- |

My passport was renewed in 2011so a bit longer than a couple of years back - doesn't time fly? I just checked because of the restrictions Ann mentioned, and found I was wearing my specs, and earrings, had a fringe and hair covering my ears! The passport was renewed in summer 2011 before 9/11 so in 2021 when it is time for renewing again and I will be 74 and needing all the help I can get, will have to show the barefaced truth!! |

I think they always look awful because of all the restrictions on how to look straight at the camera, don't smile, ears must be seen, no hair over face, no glasses because of reflection, no earrings etc. everybody then ends up with a worried look trying to conform. And, when you wear glasses all the time you don't look like yourself without them. |

I had some done a couple of years back in a booth, they were awful and I did get the address to send them back to get a refund but forgot. I then had more done at our local shoe repairer within Tescos, the chap physically took them with his camera. I still looked dire but they had to do as time was getting short to renew my passport. |

My mate went to have his photos taken in a booth. First attempt, he had pressed the wrong button and got one large one instead of four small. He paid again and had four small ones taken, only to be told in the post office to go back and have them done again, only this time without his hat!! Bob |
