Is it possible to print out the family tree in one go so you can see the whole tree on a piece of A4?

Do you have a small tree? Most of the time the answer is no, but you could try.

Open up your tree then click Full on the line underneath the GR logo
At the far right on the same line is the symbol of a printer. Click that and see what happens.

If that doesn't work, you may want to download a free FH programme to your computer, You can then download a gedcom copy of your tree from GR and open if with the FH programme. They all have various option for printing.

Thank for your advise, I press print on the right hand side and a print preview comes up with nothing on it. I have got the tree on full and it's not that big at the moment.

I am not sure what a FH programme is, I'm new to all this but totally besotted with it all and having spent all day doing the tree I wanted to present it to my husband as the reason I hadn't made him any tea!!

I am sorry to be a nuisance but could you explain where I find this FH programme and the steps I need to take very simply so I can follow your guidance.

Many thanks.

FH programme is a family history programme that you put on your computer. Lots of people use FamilyTreeMaker which you have to buy but there are lots of free programmes that you can download - just google "family history software" and you should find some to choose from.

As for printing out your family tree onto A4 paper (which is as big as most home printers can cope with) it depends on how many generations you have in your tree. If you have more than a few then printing on A4 is not an option as the print would be too small to read. Once you have more than a few generations then your best bet would be to get a commercial printers to print out your tree for you. One firm often mentioned on here is:-

http://www.genealogyprinters.com

The owner of the company is called Ron who used to be a member of GenesReunited and he is very helpful. If you don't know how to get the information to him he will talk you through everything you need to do.

If you look at the website they also sell blank family history charts that you could fill in yourself by hand.

If your tree is quite small, this might be of use

Hi Bev,

When I first started doing my family tree back in 2003 I used to spend all day and every day on here. At that time a lot of people used the community boards and the threads moved very quickly indeed. I quickly became hooked.

My husband and son used to tell everyone they were on the "family tree diet" because they would come in from work and I would still be in front of the computer and there was never a meal ready - so you had better tell your husband to get used to it, lol.

last time I printed mine out it took 48 sheets of paper
and we had to stick it all together like a jigsaw

but it was good when it was done :-D :-D :-D

Not sure what I am going to do about printing!! I have found looking at my tree on my pad is a lot easier than on my computer.

Does anyone know if I can still see the tree if my subscription runs out or do I have to keep up the payments??

Many thanks, (not done anything yet this morning except hunting down new relatives)!!

If you mean can you still see your tree here on Genes then yes, you can, and you can edit it, but you will not be able to add to threads on these community boards and will not be able to contact anyone about people in their tree.

Yes if your sub runs out, you can still view and add names to it. However, you'd have to subscribe to view any records you search for, or have already attached to your tree.

TIP - download them to your home computer while you can, than back up to GR.

There a number of Free sites you can use, depending on your geographical area. eg for England and Wales

https://familysearch.org/ - B,M.D and some census, parish records
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ - B,M & D 1837-c1970
http://www.freereg.org.uk/ - parish records
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/ - links to many sites, some free, some not.
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills - useful for finding dates of death if their Estate went to Probate
http://www.deceasedonline.com/ - burial registers. Although you have to pay to view the entry, the free preview frequently gives date of death.

At some point, you'll need to purchase a B, M or D certificate. These can be ordered for £9.25 from the government source http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ Other than the local register office (which is usually more expensive) do not buy from anywhere else!

I'm still puzzling why you can't see anything on the print preview. Try dragging the tree around the page or re-sizing it (Ctrl and - is a quick fix, and Ctrl and + to enlarge)
