Rub the wax in with OO grade wire wool and buff it up with a soft cloth.

Nothing worse than the wrong bottle !

After a night on the tiles, my sister woke up early with an incredible thirst.
Made her way to the kitchen in the dark, located a bottle of juice, opened it, put it to her mouth and took a huge gulp.

It was a bottle of cooking oil !

Thank goodness you didn't mistake it for hair spray!
My Uncle put ice salt on his flower beds in mistake for fertilizer boy did that notice!

Thanks for your replies everyone.

I dashed around to my sons house just after my original post because I remembered he had some wood cleaner, so I nicked it (oops.... borrowed it).

Gave the table a good wash and dry, still no sheen but the surface looks better after a good buffing.

To be honest, I don't even know where the oven cleaner came from because I have a self clean one :-S Anyway, the oven cleaner is now in the bin ;-)

My mother once did the same as Ann.

Have to admit, I'd never accidently spray my coffee table with oven cleaner, as I don't clean my oven, and never spray polish my coffee table!!! :-D :-D :-D

You want to give it a good wash again with warm water to wash any vinegar left on it........ ,,,white vinegar removes grease!! so it wont shine

once its dry then polish......a few polishes may restore its shine.

I was going to suggest putting big labels on the bottles :-D :-D :-D

Hope you get the shine back x

Seems you have done the right thing Libby. Found this - which is what you have done. Hope with a bit more beeswax and some elbow grease it will be shining again :-)

How to Remove Oven Cleaner Stains From:
Wood
As some oven cleaners can dissolve wood finishes, work quickly. Wipe the area with a cloth or sponge dampened with cool water. Wipe dry with a soft cloth. Polish or wax immediately to prevent permanent damage.

You might need a liberal application of Elbow Grease

Libby Report 13 Feb 2015 16:44

I have only gone and sprayed oven cleaner on my coffee table instead of polish :-0 :-0

Washed it off with soapy water straight away, then sprayed with white vinegar spray. Have since sprayed with beeswax polish, followed by buffing with a clean cloth. It still looks very dull and I can't get any proper beeswax cream until tomorrow.

I could kick myself.

Not sure weather to blame my fading eye sight, todays date or just my own stupidity.

Any tips anyone?
