Thats OK, I had my computervman do a lot of work on it. It also came with the new Windows which you have to buy to use. But as I already had an older version that works fine, we sorted all that out, and the Macafee which too was preloaded.

Most new laptops come preloaded with loads of stuff that most people do not want.

Dear All

Thank you so much for all your help.

I already have a Kindle Fire so would I gain anything by having an ipad?

Dazed C there was something in the paper recently about Lenavo laptops and software that is loaded onto them at factory stage which allows people to send adverts to you etc. Don't know if that would apply to yours. I think it was in the DM either yesterday or today.

A few words of advice

Do you have a computer/laptop already? If so you may find that you cannot do all you want with your tablet. So think about what you want to do.
If you have someone who does already have a tablet, sit with them for a while and see how it works for them (and you).
Also do not confine yourself to the iPad. There are now so many tablets out there and they basically all do the same for a variety of prices from as little as £100.00. I am of the opinion that with Apple products we are being drawn in by 'ooh bright and shiny'. I know I have been.......

At present, I have a Lenovo Laptop (my old Dell literally started to fall apart with keys falling off!). And I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab. Love my tab. But find typing so much easier on my laptop, and on laptop now.

If and when my tablet needs replacing I will be going for a Kindle Fire.

DO shop around. :-D :-D :-D

I have an IPad 3 and it is excellent for what I want. I have to say though that most of the time I am on my desk top pc because I prefer it to the tablet. Tablets are portable and convenient though.

I too have the Nexus 7 which for months and months was Computeractive magazine's best budget buy but google/asus are discontinuing it in favour of a larger model so you might get a discount - I paid about £160 eight months ago in Argos. It has a good online instruction book called "Beginners guide to Android" . I also bought Nexus 7 for Dummies which was a help in setting it up.

Londonbelle, thank you for your reply and I have noted your comments.

eRRolSheep,
thank you too for your information. I looked on Amazon Uk and they seem cheaper than Currys by quite a lot. I will go and have a good look and 'feel' to see what would suit me best.

I have just remembered we have a small computer shop in the square down the road where I live so maybe I'll have a chat with him to see what's on offer and if he can help.

My thanks again to you all

Just be careful with Currys/PC World (same company) that they don't bamboozle you into buying something you do not actually need or want.

I was (against my far better judgement) in there last week to compare prices for a couple of laptops and the "sales expert" tried to sell me a load of things I did not need. He suddenly realised that I knew what I was talking about and disappeared pretty darned quickly.

Shops such as PC World are merely the technology equivalent of car salesrooms - they just need to move stock as quickly as possible.

If you want to buy an iPad (many pros and cons for that) then by all means go to PC World/Currys and look, "feel" what you want but then go and purchase elsewhere - either locally or online.

Incidentally, PC World are not especially cheap either - I bought one laptop recently which was almost £300 cheaper than the exact same model in PC World.

I've got a Nexus 7.........it's about the size of a paperback and it's great.

I got mine from PC World........they charge £20 to set it up. The guy showed me the basics and set it up.....I was there for about 40 mins and in the end I wasn't charged the £20....I think he felt sorry for me LOL :-) :-)

This link is useful Phyll....I have ipad and love it. If you have a currys near you ..pop in and have a chat with one of the techno guys there...no need to buy, I find it easier when someone shows me how rather than written instructions.

I am thinking of buying an iPad. Does anyone have any recommendations please. Are they easy to get 'installed' if that's the right word.

Many thanks
