Don't you just hate it when you spot a bargain for a member of the family and come the end of the month have to make a special journey to return it to the shop?

Especially when it's raining! And cold.

I've even got to make a round trip to pick up the said garment :-(

At Christmas I bought a lovely kiddie pinafore which on reflection was a touch small. A week later they had it in the size larger. With the best will in the world I was always going to return the smaller one. After all, a kiddie pinafore with matching tights from M * S doesn't come cheap. Yes, I am now waiting for a baby girl to be born when she isn't even a twinkle in her parent's eyes! And what a long five years to wait until it fits!! :-|

I had over £150 in M&S vouchers
All of it came from returns of Christmas gifts from my Sister in Law to various members of my family

She is an angel and always supplies the gift receipts, but she only shops in M&S.

I returned a dressing gown, Pjs and slippers that she bought for me ,plus various other things that my girls would never wear.

It was my birthday the week before last.
She bought me more slippers and more nightwear...... all from M&S!

I returned these too and got more vouchers in exchange and took the total to about £200
So far, I've managed to spend £70 of it.

On Friday, I also received my own M&S credit card vouchers in the post.... another £30 !

What is wrong with what she buys GL, you obviously shop there yourself so must like their stuff, is it the wrong size?

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 22 Feb 2015 15:13

Ann,
I rarely shop in M&S myself except for some food items and underwear.
My M&S credit card can be used anywhere.... it's a Mastercard.

My SIL is quite a bit older than myself. ( she's almost 70yrs old) and shops exclusively in Marks

I feel guilty but, I wouldn't wear most of the stuff that she buys for me, and my daughters definitely wouldn't wear the things she buys for them.

I'm far from mutton dressed as lamb, but I don't exactly have her dress sense either.

AnninGlos Report 22 Feb 2015 15:23

Lol I love M&S clothes and consider myself quite fashionable and I am four years older than your SIL. My daughter is 53 and also shops in M&S but you have to be choosy what you buy. I buy their trousers, underwear, T shirts, sweaters, slippers, shoes, rarely wear skirts or dresses. But why don't you drop a hint to her. Suggest a shop that you would like a voucher from. Yes I have a MYS Mastercard, sorry wasn't thinking then. :-)

Oh Ann!
I've had M&S gifts from her for over 30yrs.
I have dropped hints but nothing changes.
Even my daughters outgrew Marks before they hit their teens

We have very different tastes in just about everything, including fashion.
I often wonder if she thinks that I dress too young ?

We are polar opposites:
I like jeans and she wears elasticated waist things
If I am going somewhere speciaI, I like to wear shorter length shift dresses with boots and she likes flouncy, calf length skirts with sensible (M&S) shoes
My house is modern/minimalist and hers is very ...Erm....floral and chintzy.

(OOOH., just remembered... I bought a new bed last month.... it was from M&S)

I feel better now ..LOL

:-D :-D :-D :-D It is not age that constrains my fashion sense it is shape. I wish I had the shape for short shift dresses but most of them cling to every lump and bump. I do like a bit of stretch in waists but not elasticated and I do hate their classical range of trousers with the sewn in crease down the front. I actually wear their jeans most of the time because they actually fit me. Each to their own though :-) :-) :-)

I like their per uno stretchy wrapper dresses but am choosy about the prints. I just looked to see if they had anything new but didn't like the prints today.

I wear them every day, wash two at a time on a quick 30 deg wash, shake and leave out to dry. No ironing, it's been a real boost this winter.

I just made a return of two items to bhs, only to be told that I could have had credit once the date was over..

It's always worth asking for a gift receipt, you get 3 months to return then. Mind you, the time slips by and you can easily be back in the same situation... :-0

I like Per Una stuff but looking yesterday a lot of the things had really strong patterns, and T shirts with penguins and shells etc on them, not sure what market they are aiming for.

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 22 Feb 2015 17:37

Per Una does seem to go in for bright and pastel colours!
I was looking at a coat the other day and I liked the fit but, it was a bright lemon colour

Since I hit 50's my shape has soooo changed .
Shift dresses hide the fact that I've become top heavy and my lower half has disappeared.
I no longer have hips or curves.
I wear jeans most of the time but I need a belt to keep them up.
M&S jeans tend to have lots room in the body with lift and shape but,... I've got nothing to lift !

:-( :-( :-(

The problem I have is with a tummy that shouldn't be there and boobs that are a bit big for my 5 foot 2.5 frame. Hips would be fine without the stomach which is why straight shift dresses are not good. But even worse are those dresses that have a lot of rouching across the lower front. :-D :-D

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 22 Feb 2015 17:53

I hate those things too AnninGlos, nothing worse.

I have become the shape that I always dreaded.
Easter Egg springs to mind

I point blank refuse to wear leggings
Worst ever is leggings and short tops.

I'll stick to my size 10, baggy, belted jeans and longer length, size 14 tops

It was just a bit of lighthearted banter when I posted yesterday. I didn't realise that a close member of my family was pregnant.

I just heard she has miscarried, thank goodness I had just arrived home from my own hospital appointment to comfort her.

Thank you Ann for the kind thoughts. There wasn't a lot I could say, but I know how it feels. It would have been such a shock and a sad disappointment for them. Only time will heal.

Thank you GL for the kind words. I only just picked up your message as I was called to stop over at theirs last night and spent the day trying to say the right thing and do some jobs and provide distraction. She's doing well, thank you <3
