Well, I had a call a couple of weeks ago, (feasible number too) allegedly from the Council. Asked me a few questions (which they should have know the answers to - but then 'security' questions are similar), then asked what TV I had.
At this point alarm bells rang, and I asked which branch of the Council they worked for - whereupon they hung up.
3 days later, I had a call from a legitimate insurance company telling me my TV was probably out of Warranty. Informed them I didn't like firms phoning my number when it had been obtained through a scam, and I was on TPS. She apologised profusely and put the phone down.

So, my existence, and phone number have duly been 'collected' and sold on.
You could say I 'should have known' with the first call, but I know Councils are out-sourcing jobs, and I was half expecting calls from both the local Council and the County Council - but neither call would have involved my TV!!!

How do they know?

They know I exist - but they knew when I didn't answered it before.
I realise I can now look forward to a spat of cold calls :-(

I think a sales rep probably has more important things to think about than spending "selling time" ringing up previous people because they are peeved.

Sounds like a scam but think it through logically.

Was an interesting cold call :-D

'Out of Area' number phoned. Normally don't answer, or press 'answer' followed immediately by 'end call'.
Today I answered. A bloke with a strong accent told me there was something wrong with my land line, and before I could reply - he hung up!!! :-P

It was only a while later, I realised I was probably supposed to think my phone was broken!! As it happens, my sister phoned me half an hour later.

Do you think he was getting me back for my previous actions?
