It never really got off the ground in a sense,,,,,,,,some were irate at the title, some were vile mouthed abusive and violent towards those that were willing to give an insight into how as a melting pot of,local, second generations and immigrants gelled together.as the road is a melting pot of many cultures,

It was the younger set that caused mayhem and were throwing bottles at the film crew. and by their foul behaviour it would have been hard to have had an intelligent talk with any of them,,,,!......but immigration didnt cover all the residents, so was a bad choice of word.

The road was, in way back days a red light area

This was mentioned on the programme.

It would have been so interesting to see how the street had changed and to maybe compare it to the streets which had housed all the brothels in other sea ports.

We who live in almost exclusively white communities are interested to see how other communities which embrace other cultures function.

I barely have had any contact with Catholics locally, never mind any other culture.

There was a man ran one of the sub- post offices in Chichester and several of us, well into adulthood, were intrigued by the tiny hat he always wore and came to the conclusion that he must have a wound he was protecting on his head. We didn't know about Jewish, we had never encountered it!

Derby Road has come up in the world then from being Southampton's chief area for a cheap fcuk much frequented on match days.

Didn't watch it but there's a review here
http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/feb/24/immigration-street-review-no-real-winners-this-tale-derby-road

Apparently there weren't too many residents who wanted to be in it, perhaps because they felt it might be given a similar treatment to 'benefit street'?.... ie not particularly representative?( just going on the review as I said)

I suppose if they filmed in this street where I live and called it 'partly social housing street' or 'dodgy dealer street' or 'Dole Road' ...I might think it a bit of a cheek and unrepresentative of the majority also...I might also be miffed that there was filming going on which might cause disruption generally. :-D

Did anybody watch it last night?

I really don't understand what all the upset and affront was about.

Those worthy and exemplary folk whose knowledge and superiority is such that they are even able to shout 'F*ck' in the street evidently do as they were able to explain it all to others who were even able to argue against a point that had never been made at a public meeting.

It was just the same when the leader of the BNP was given an opportunity to appear on Question Time. Nobody listened to him but they all argued against down by using the information they had received from newspapers.

It probably doesn't really matter who wins the election. The country is run by bloody newspapers anyway!
