I think a lot of obesity is caused by the rubbish that is put in our food!
Okay, you can say everything should be cooked from scratch, but since the 60's our staple food - bread has been messed about with, by a process known as the 'Chorleywood Process'.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chorleywood_bread_process

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-13670278

For more information, just 'Google' 'Chorleywood Bread Process'.

Too many enzymes and additives- what can they do?

If this is being done to bread, what else is being adulterated?

Dear All

Hello

When I was at school, we did PE every day.

We also played different sports on the pitches and grounds, near to the school.

Many of these playing fields and recreation grounds have been sold off.

There are now very few places where the children and youngsters
can play safely and with supervision.

It would be really good if some of the youngsters could go on trips to the countryside and see some of the crafts and trades and visit farms.

Most of this techno stuff drives me barmy.

Take gentle care
With best wishes
Love Elizabeth,
xx

I think, that part of the blame has to lie with the parenting. All of these techno gadgets cost quite a lot of money.

Children that have smart phones, xboxes etc and are in primary school shouldnt have them. I know p5-6 children that do, play 16 plus games, have facebook etc and who lets them have access to all these things.....the parents.

My children didn't own a PS1 until they were 10!

They played outside in our huge garden, sandpit, slide and on good days went down to the beach or park before and after tea.

young children cant afford to buy all these things and so if the parents do and then their children stay indoors to play on them and become overweight due to lack of exercise, then really, it could be a case for neglect in some cases.

Just as giving fast food to save time instead of making a healthier option could be.

At the end of the day, it comes down to priorities doesn't it?

Some of us always put our children first and make sacrifices for ourselves and some parents sadly do not.

Im not judging anyone, just making a few points based on families i know and their parenting styles.

Rose, i happen to agree that it isn't natural for children to scream and shout all the time. Yes when they get excited sometimes, but playing at the park shouldnt be so loud that it interferes with other's.

If a group were being that noisy congregated on a street corner, Im sure they would get moved on!

I think that mostly fat children come from fat parents on average.
I also think it's down to the food intake and what they eat.
Eat less loose weight, and exercise as well.

It's not that I object to kids enjoying the park Joy :-) but I have never come across so many screamers before, I worry that if one screamed because there really was something bad happening no one would take any notice , ...and the language many of them use at a very young age is 'ripe' to say the least :-0

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 27 Feb 2015 14:41

but they also tend to reach for fast food
so they can back to their lappys computers ect
most of the time

Rose its fine to have a different opinion
how boring life would be if we were all the same lol :-D :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Feb 2015 13:31

Although Technology may make a contribution, life in general has led to increased childhood weight….for some, not all.

- Fear of danger - traffic or predators - stops parents from allowing their children to roam free.
- Many parents work full or part time. They might be tempted to feed them fast-foods rather than cooking less fattening foods from scratch. If a child wants a snack, its easier, quicker and cheaper to throw them a packet of crisps than take the time to make a sandwich. A packet of crisps works out cheaper than a piece of fruit, some of which may not get eaten.
- Technology is used as a child minder – sit them in front of a Box and they’ll be safe while the parent/carer gets on with something else.

there's always something to criticise in children's enthusiasms - my mother would apologise for me saying "I'm afraid she's a terrible bookworm"

I have to disagree on the 'playing in the park' bit Joy, lol, I 'look forward' (not!) to a very noisy summer like last year when the screams and shouts from the play park behind me start at first light and go on till 11 ish :-(

Years ago people had this mental image of kids sitting in a dark room playing on their computers. Nowadays most youngsters have mobile devices. So being online doesn't mean being a couch potato.

Graham

Graham Report 27 Feb 2015 12:05

Perhaps they shouldn't eat so many microchips :-D
