And if it hadn't been for this thread, the bacon might still be in the freezer :-D

the problem with most North American bacon is that it is intended to be fried to a crisp ............. most of it is much fatter than English bacon.

If you are over here and want more "English-style" bacon, ask if they have Canadian Back bacon. Most grocery stores will have Canadian back bacon if you are buying it.

Otherwise, ask the server for "soft bacon" or non-crispy bacon, and it will not be cooked to a crisp ............... if you are lucky :-D

just had a late lunch ...................

bacon butty :-D

2 slices Harvest Grain bread, not toasted

Mix of Double Smoked Bacon and Gammon Bacon .............. both from Europe, bought from a stall in the local market, and been in my freezer for about 18 months

No sauce, mayonnaise or anything.

Lovely grub :-D

Frazzles are a bacon flavoured, corn based snack that gives you indigestion!

What's a frazzle? Remember I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic.

Now, here's a confession.

I have been known to eat a sandwich made with buttered sliced white, tomato ketchup and Frazzles.

There used to be some wonderful vege rashers called Streaky Strips which would fry crisp bu the manufacturers could not guarantee that the saya was not GM free so they stopped making them.

Quorn rashers will do but they are not as good as Streaky Strips were.

Buttered fresh white bread cut from a loaf - Henry's Baker's is the best, made on the premises from scratch.
Unsmoked Back Bacon - for a health option then with mayo, lettuce and toms, otherwise as nature intended.

first catch your pig
(Mrs Beeston)

then toast the thick slice bread and serve with generous serving of quality back bacon, not cheap stuff. I usually toast the bread one side only and lightly fry the other side in the bacon fat. BR once served great sarnies like this many moons ago.

def no sauces etc

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Feb 2015 01:19

brown or whole wheat bread, not toasted, no butter or other "grease", bacon (not crispy), no mayo

If I'm making it , that's it

definitely no sauce!

If we're out or travelling and I'm having it in a cafe ............... I'll have lettuce and tomato as well. But still no mayo

I do like the BLTs made at Subway and Tim Horton's in Canada ............... they both use a roll. Subway has a soft Italian Roll that I like, and Timmy's just has a "soft roll".

reason for the no mayo is my lactose intolerance ................ mayo should NOT contain any dairy, but I've been caught out by one that obviously did have dairy in it :-( .

I now don't trust cafes ............... and we don't eat enough of it at home to make it worthwhile to buy.

Well that's funny. :-D

The point I was trying to make....is that bread is bread.

Just like an egg is an egg,..... whether it's boiled, scrambled, poached or fried.

Whatever side of the Atlantic you come form.............An egg is an egg!

:-0 :-S ;-) :-D
