Could be as I have more than one.

Perhaps having more than one tree accounts for it.

EDIT.....Just went back on again and that is definately how I did it (Just making sure I was not having a senior moment) :-D

My Ancestry seems to be different to yours La Gooner.

The top left says Family Trees, the drop down menu gives Manage Trees as the option to select.

Then select Privacy Settings.

Then under Private tree there are two boxes to tick. The first makes your tree private but the people in it can still be found by searches unless you tick the second box as well.

Good Morning Sue. Put your tree up then go to top left where it says Tree Pages. There is a drop down menu so go to tree settings and click on Private tree.

I have joined Ancestry and have put on loads of rellies.

I want to make my tree private,,,

So could some kind soul give clear basic english instructions on how to do it.
