So how is my no smoking going

the hardest time we had in stopping was when both of us decided to stop at the same time ......................

the no smoking lasted about 3 weeks, although we both got tetchier, with each other and our daughter.

Then came the day when we both had a bad day at work .................. stopped off to buy cigarettes on the way home.

OH did stop completely soon after that ............... he only smoked if he was having a drink (of anything) and never at his desk, and didn't like smoking when he was reading as he didn't like ash falling on the page. So he simply stopped having coffee except when he could take it back to his desk, and read a lot

It worked ................ for him

I continued smoking ............... then had laser acupuncture in 1990. That worked a treat ................ I went from between 30 and 40 a day to none at all.

It did mean some changes in life style ............ I didn't sit at the table after a meal, I drank a lot of water, and went for walks when I really felt the urge to smoke.

That last was strange .............. because I had previously always smoked when I was out walking :-S

However, I have not had a cigarette since that day ............................... although I sometimes dream that I have been smoking, and can even have the cigarette taste in my mouth when I wake up.

Well it's not really "never mind, you tried" but more accurately an ongoing and expensive way to commit slow speed suicide.

Most smokers want to give up motivation is rarely the problem. The problem is that nicotine is extremely addictive especially for women.

The only thing that will work is cold turkey once you have tapered down as far as possible. A big help is to substitute the smoking activity for something else. Sarcastic spouses are probably a show stopper as anybody trying to give up needs sympathy and encouragement.

After years of smoking 20-40 a day I finally managed to stop in the Gulf where ciggies are not taxed. I took up eating chocolate toffees instead which did nothing for my waistline.

The eCigarettes look quite a good option. They allow you to remain a nicotine addict while taking away a lot of the nasty downside. Has anybody tried them ?

Never mind you tried and you do both need to want to give up to succeed. Obviously for the sake of your health it would be a good thing and having designated smoking areas is a good start. My T went to outside only which did work eventually, especially when his work brought in smoking only in smoking room with a glass door so the boss could see who was in there and how often, he wasn't having that.
The strange thing was, because he only smoked outdoors, it was three days before I clicked that he had given up, although I would have eventually twigged when the morning cough disappeared.
Having seen two much loved people die from lung cancer in the past three years, I hope that you can eventually succeed.
Meanwhile having the dogs poorly can't help and I hope theya re both bouncing fir again today. <3 <3 <3

It´s harder than you could imagine.
I started by restricting myself to 2 packs per week (40 instead of 200). That went well for the 1st 6 weeks or so, bur now I´m up to 50 per week.
My main problem is the sarcastic remarks from OH if he sees me smoking, so I grab the chance when he´s not around, whether I want one or not. I know it´s self defeating & I´m certainly nowhere near fag free, but I will persevere <6 hopefully succeed in spite of the sarcasm.
Keep trying. ;-) ;-) ;-)

If you haven't succeeded before, why not use the Sheffield Meet as the boost to get you started?

You can't smoke in the airport, on the plane or in any public building or transport over here, so you'd get off to a flying (pun intended) start!

Good luck anyway. :-) :-) :-)

Just Ginnie little one is okay (I hope) she is still in the airing cupboard and has gone 6hrs without another fit, That is good but also worrying because I am now waiting for the next.
Today´s fit was strange and makes me worry that she is starting to zone out again on top of full blown fits. You have to have an epi dog to understand.

I will quit the smokes when I decide. My reasons before were for OH now I want to quit for me.

JustGinnie

JustGinnie Report 7 Mar 2015 19:32

I tried twice before finally quitting, and yes you have to want to do it for yourself and do it you will when you are ready.
Best of luck.

ps Hope your little dog is ok.

A friend of mine tired to quit. She got so cranky and mean her husband told her to start smoking again to pervious 'his' health :-D

Keep trying I'm sure you can do it.

Det I do drag the e-cig out when I know I just need something in hand or mouth. I have no intention of renewing the cartridge mind it didn´t work when I bought it so I will use it as a prop now.

I will get there but it´s going to take me longer than I thought. I just have to ban smoking in areas and come summer I can make it out doors only, Then come winter who wants to smoke in the cold. :-D. I know I can go hours when we are with non smoking friends so I should have no problem at home. ......eventually

Only smoking in a designated area is a good start. if you don't already, how about switching to the lowest nicotine level cigarettes available?

On your original thread, you did mention that you had an e-cigarette. How about substituting tobacco ones with that? You could continue using the same cartridge even after its empty. Your mind will be telling itself its receiving the hit, when all its getting is air.

We swapped to e-cigs about 5 months ago. Our equivalent to tobacco has halved, no morning hacks, we dont get breathless walking up hills and our bank balance is far healthier.

You'll get there in the end x

Thank you Mersey and Emma. I am a tad annoyed at myself, but I will get there because now I want to do it instead of doing it for somebody else. *shrugs*

I thought I would let you know ....

it went. I knew OH was still sneaking smokes and then he had 2 days off and caved in and had to smoke in front of me. Yes that caved me in :-( . as we were out.
We have decided on some changes, no smoking beyond the living room (in the house), rather a lets move it out to the porch and eventually outside. No buying in bulk. etc etc.

I still intend to pack up,and not smoke when alone but raided the pack we have in the cupboard today when Minx had a strange fit that left me shaking.

I will get there but not as easy I thought. I am going without my "needy" smoke in the mornings mind and I intend to keep that up.
