I and my daughter always say "Hi, it's me" whenever we phone each other ............ but to no-one else

My OH rarely identifies himself when he phones me ..... but I do recognise his voice :-)

and, no, we don't have caller identity!

My son-in-law, always says when he rings, hello how's your day been? Am not sure why as he does not work at a supermarket check out or serving customers in a shop... but then I suppose he doesn't get to say much to most of who he deals with as he is in the funeral business and is always dashing off to collect a dead body from somewhere... He had one recently where it was of someone who was murdered several years ago and he and another chap had to lay out all the bones in the right place.

My eldest granddaughter will not allow him to talk shop at the dinner table.

It does baffle me at times as I don´t have caller display but what makes me grin even more is when I answer the phone and they say who´s that ? as there is only me and OH and we don´t sound alike I usually answer well who did you phone ?

I´m trying to think if I ever say it´s me and I fear :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0 I might have. I used to say it to Dad but I have a definite accent a spanish code and I used to say Hi Dad it´s me :-D :-D :-D

My daughters sound alike - apparently the same as me!
I don't know (unless I look at the phone) which daughter has called me, and if I phone them, they don't know if it's their mum or sibling - they haven't activated 'caller display' and I'm not going to tell then how to do it.

It's a handy way of finding out how loopy they think their mum is this week :-D

My ex rarely phones but when he does he will launch into what he wants to say without introducing himself. I take great delight in interrupting and asking "Sorry, who is this please?" even though I know. Winds him up somewhat :-D

Childish of me really but I do enjoy his annoyance that I could possibly have forgotten him ;-)

Our daughters do that - the trouble is that they sound very similar. We have to wait for another sentence before we can work out which one it is :-S

If it's 'Can I borrow' its X. Y tends to ask how we are. :-D

I suppose most people are used to mobile phones - where whoever is calling is displayed - as long as they are one of your contacts.

I have 'caller display' on my landline, so if I have their number saved on the 'phonebook' part of the phone, I know who it is.

When I answer the phone, that's what many people say. :-S

Why?

I don't always recognise the voice.

I say "Hi Me"....... and they usually laugh and say who they are.

Is anyone else annoyed by this?
