So, the little girl, who cannot be held liable for her actions, is cycling along the pavement with her dad beside her on his bicycle and, being distracted by whatever might distract a four year old, she runs into your granny or Bob's wife whose bones have thinned now she has finished with her menstrual cycle.

Dad, on his own bicycle, would not be in a position to avert the situation quickly enough and said elderly lady would be at risk of losing her life.

In court, Dad's defence would argue that the policeman who had just passed by had seen the little girl who was cycling on the pavement and not stopped so he must have condoned the action.

The little girl would be haunted by the knowledge that she had caused a serious accident and the old lady would have done nothing wrong.

Many years ago (about 25), I was knocked down by a cyclist

I was walking across the plaza from the bus terminus, a paved area that was not part of the roadway

she was cycling the same way.

I stopped, she ran into the back of me ............................

and the next thing I knew was I was lying on my back looking up at the sky and facing the direction from which I had come.

I actually didn't feel her hit me ................. but I must have spun round and then fallen over backwards.

She said ........................

"I didn't expect you to stop"

She was upset about it, and insisted on accompanying me to my husband's office, which was nearby.

He took me home .......................... never did go to the doctor, although I sometimes wonder, on looking back, whether I should have done :-)

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer true
I’m half crazy over the love of you
It won’t be a stylish marriage
I can’t afford a carriage
But you’ll look sweet
Upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two

Ruby, Ruby, give me your answer true
Will you let me peddle along with you
When you and I go cruisin’
You’ll thank me for choosin’
You to come and have some fun
On a bicycle built for two

Billy, Billy, give me your answer true
I love riding, do you love it too
Slow or fast or faster
You lead, I’ll follow after
The path flies by as you and I
Ride a bicycle built for two.

My wife was an absolute terror on her menstrual cycle. Bob (who prefers to remain anonymous, for obvious reasons)

Oh dear!

Cyclists are getting a ragging on this thread today. Lance Armstrong hoodwinked the whole world for years & he was never caught cycling on any pavement.

Perhaps Boris Johnson, instigator of ‘Boris’ Bikes’ in London, might say a few jolty words in support of the two-wheelers or even the three-wheelers.

It's older people(40 upwards) that cycle on the pavements that bugs me.

Older lady(80's) was knocked over on the pavement and broke her hip and leg with an older cyclist.
He didn't even stop to see how bad she was.

It's cyclists riding on the pavement,
going through red lights and using the crossings to
cross a road that bug me.

AnninGlos Report 11 Mar 2015 14:22

Oh and it has changed it actually just says You must not ride on the pavement. Well how stupid to expect the police to use common sense, it doesn't say that anyway, just says MUST NOT.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 11 Mar 2015 14:17

Maybe I am wrong about the highway code as the report says the legal aspect is that children under 10 can't be prosecuted for anything so that is why they can't be prosecuted for riding on the pavement. I will have to look it up now.

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 11 Mar 2015 12:50

I think the people with disability scooters
should drive them in cycle lanes

they are far more dangerous on the pavement

than a 4 year old child :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 11 Mar 2015 12:41

I should think they would apologise. And read up on the highway code!! Children under 16 (I think) are allowed to rise on the pavement. Although the way some of these young teenagers (14/15 year olds) ride I think the age should be lower.

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 11 Mar 2015 12:38

Probably not a positive one.......

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 11 Mar 2015 12:15

children are allowed to cycle on the path

that police man should of been a master baker :-D :-D

cause he is rubbish at his job ;-) ;-)

The whole UK police force, including my youngest one, has been unfairly 'stigmatised' by just one reported incident & compounded further by this thread.

Still, everyone is entitled to an opinion. And that's good because this is just my opinion.
