I was interested to watch a small part of the programme about the Houses of Parliament recently on which mention was made that, because of the imminent ( and desperate) need for structural repairs to the buildings, Parliament itself would have to be relocated for the duration.

Given that certain areas of the country are less expensive to live in, and in need of inward investment would it not be sensible to move some of the other financial and governmental institutions out of the capital, lessening the burden on housing in London and the SE generally and bringing some benefit to another area/areas?

Thoughts ? for or against, and possible temporary locations for the Parliament.

Birmingham would make sense. It's the second city.

I hadn't realised that it had been discussed in the press, but some views 'for and against' are expressed here

Pull the bleddy thing down and make MP's have parliament in tents in countryside.

Then rebuild it...Cheaper in the long run.

Cockup, in Cumbria?

Cornwall could do with some money and employment.
Cocks is a hamlet in the parish of Perranzabuloe - perhaps this hamlet could benefit?

Scozz, I think you mean The Isles of Scilly. The inhabitants are quite particular about that.

The Scilly Isles is a roundabout in Surrey. That might be better.

maggiewinchester, please leave my favourite Cornish parish out of it.
