I'm now trying to trace my grandmother's father, one Alfred Whitmore. I have searched various census for him as head of household but have found no results. It's quite a common name so I have used Fred and Alf too. I have no idea where to go from here apart from searching for his surname only, which might be a long haul. My grandmother, Lily Alice Whitmore, was born in 1893/4 so I've been through the next two census, 1901/11.When Lily Alice was married in 1920 he was shown as deceased. Would anyone have any suggestions where I should go from here? |

It would have been best to kept this to the other thread so we had an area and that she married as Lilian not Lily :-) |

Lily Alice died in 1964 in Rickmansworth so the Brent death isn't her. |

Sometimes, when a person dies, the informant of the death gets the age of the deceased wrong. So one of the first three births I mentioned on your other thread could tally. |

Florence - they were death records I posted for Alfred. They were the only Alfred Whitmores who died between Lily's birth and the 1901 census. Since none of them could have been Lily's father, this suggests that he did not die during that period. |

It's possible ,as no deaths come up for Albert Whitmore, that he didn't exist |

Ok - Lily's marriage certificate shows her father, Alfred Whitmore, deceased, occupation coalman. She must have been born in 1893/4 so Alfred is likely to have been born (perhaps) at the latest in 1871/2. I remember her birthday was 17th May so 2nd quarter. |
