I don't drink at all ............. alcohol no longer likes me and makes me ill


OH likes 1 small drink before bed ............. usually about 1oz of port, or a spirit diluted with something. He'll also have 1 glass of wine or a bottle of cider if we go out to dinner anywhere other than our regular Japanese place, which is about once a month


so let's guess at a maximum of 8 or 9 units a week


The doctor sent him to see a dietician some years ago, and one of the questions she asked was "how much do you drink?"

On being told 1 drink at bedtime ................... he was told to see if he could drink less.



Personally ........... I think your amount of drinking is a bit high, and could lead to problems


It's not only the alcohol and associated kidney, liver, etc .............. but also the poundage put on



......... but that is not for any of us to say.

In a week of hard and dedicated drinking I sometimes get up to nearly two units.

the most I've managed in the last 4 or 5 years is 2 sips of OH champagne at New Year .................. twice!

The nearest I come to drinking is using wine, beer or perry in cooking :-D

I have a friend who's slowly dying. His liver is shot due to drink. He won't stop drinking so he's not on the list for a new liver.

I don't drink. Never bothered me. I do the driving and see what happens when people over indulge. Just remember within the next couple of years I will be at a funeral because it's too late for my friend Bill.

I had three small beers tonight (Tuesday).

Not the usual for me, I usually only drink on a Friday evening.

But........ it's St Paddy's Day :-D

I had to!! I have a teaspoon of Irish blood (my grandfather's grandmother's parents were Irish) :-D

I drink about 5 units a year

ive never found a alcoholic drink I like the taste of :-D

I have just been having a tot-up, (no pun intended) My intake is probably nearer to 30 than 40, and I do go several days a week without. It seems to go in cycles. I may have very little for a couple of weeks, then holidays (worst time), parties, weddings etc. and I seem to be drinking a lot more. I have to admit to a liking for scrumpy, which fortunately is hard to find in London. I don't mean that gassy chemical stuff, but proper rough made with apples. I have my own apple crusher, (or scratter, for aficionados) and I have built a cider press which is very effective. I use whatever apples I can get my hands on, last year it was all from one tree and made 5 gallons of excellent stuff. I bottle some, and put some in a pressure barrel. I will go to the pub tonight to celebrate St Patrick's Day, even though I have no Irish blood in me, and don't much like Guinness.

Mine's a rum and coke, can't stand cola, too strong unless it is well watered down with alcohol. ;-) ;-)

The other thing rarely taken into consideration is the strength.
A few glasses of 15% wine is a lot different to a few glasses of 8% wine.
I prefer low-alcohol wine, as I like the taste - a lot tastes like 'rustic' Portuguese wine, which I prefer to that 'matured in oak barrels' - which I can't stand.

Oak barrels are for whisky!!

I hardly drink at all. The last drink I had was at Hogmanay, before that Christmas.

I don't like it much, and since I developed balance problems find it better not to make things worse than they already are.

(The twelve bottles of whiskey).

I had twelve bottles of whiskey in my cellar and my wife told me to empty the contents of each and every bottle down the sink... or else! So, I said I would... and proceeded with the unpleasant task.

I withdrew the cork from the first bottle and poured the contents down the sink, with the exception of one glass... which I drank.

I extracted the cork from the second bottle and did likewise with the exception of one glass... which I drank.

I pulled the cork from the third bottle and poured the whiskey down the sink, with the exception of one glass... which I drank.

I then withdrew the cork from the fourth sink and poured the bottle down the glass... which I drank.

I pulled the bottle from the cork of the next and drank one sink out of it and threw the rest down the glass.

I pulled the sink out of the next glass and poured the cork from the bottle.

Then I corked the sink with the glass, bottled the drink and drank the pour.

When I had everything emptied, I steadied the house with one hand, counted the bottles, corks, glasses and sinks with the other, which were twenty-nine.
To make sure, I counted them again... they came to seventy-four.

And as the house came by, I counted them again, and finally I had all the houses and bottles and corks and sinks and glasses counted, except one house and one cork... which I drank.

I'm not under tha affluence of incohol as some tinkle peep I am. I'm not half as thunk as you might drink. I fool so feelish I don't know who is me, and the drunker I stand here, the longer I get.

Im currently working and commuting home so might go 2 -4 weeks without anything and then head away and we'd have a few.

Im not sure how much, each bottle of wine has a different value therefore glasses vary by amount and alc vol.
My son worked in rehab and had a great way to work it out which escapes me right now.

I love a few glasses with friends, especially if they are drinking too. By the same token Ive often been designated driver and whilst the concept bugs me, once I am out and watching I enjoy it!

Until last night I would have said the last drink I had was New Year's Eve and that was 2 glasses of bubbly.

Last night I had a Guinness as it was St Patrick's Day and in honour of my Irish ancestors and really enjoyed it.

That is probably it until Christmas unless it is a hot summer and I might partake of a few ciders or citrus lagers.

I wasn't always like this.....More hangovers in my youth than I want to remember

That sounds like somebody from Sussex to me.

Looks like I am following Fred and his dad in skimming it until I got to around late thirties and then barely drinking at all.

Must be a local thing.
